Here's a question then - lets say United will sell us Amad for £15m plus add ons with a buy back around £40m. And meanwhile Burnley are willing to buy Clarke for £15m plus add ons.

It becomes at least a little more tempting then, right?

All hypothetical of course. my point i guess is that we don't know what's going on at the club, and what that cash would do for us.

(that amad price sounds unrealistic - but so was spurs selling us clarke for £3m - clubs will take a loss if there's a sell on and they get cash for now)

Who says we need to sell, to buy Amad lol. I'm sure we'll have a more than decent budget to compete at the top. I can't see Amad going anywhere but we still have hope he'll return on loan. If he doesn't I'm sure we'll have a couple of top loan deals lined up.

Amad will go out on loan next season to a team that really doesn't suit his style of play, he will have a similar season to the one he had at Rangers...

Meanwhile, Sunderland finish 2nd and get promoted and then next summer.... Amad back in a Lads shirt following a 12m transfer <cool>

Good things come to those who wait.

Good point, I really think what people believe we need to enhance the squad has been compounded by the number of injuries we have had in the same position. Like all our centre halves being out…that’s not normal and very unlikely to happen again. On a normal season we would have been fine.

I’m not worried about the depth in our squad as much as I have been in the past other than up front. We’re already in a very good position for next season and looks like we will be getting main targets over the line early for a change which is tremendous.

Can’t wait for the footy to kick off again
You say that’s not normal but we’ve had a horrendous array of defensive injuries this season and last. In fact most seasoned since we were relegated to league one we’ve missed key defenders for substantial periods. I think we need five centre halves, four full backs plus O’Nien covering everywhere. In theory we’ve got that in Hume, Huggins, Cirkin, Alese, Batth, Ballard, Triantis, Anderson and Wright ( plus O’Nien) but six of those were injured in the run in!

Agree but if the reported fee of 7m is even close to what the club will accept, and the fans are saying 20m plus when looking at the Watford players fee, then the first test of this regimes selling prowess is going to seriously upset the fanbase!
Agree but we’ll never know what the fee is, it’ll be undisclosed and then cue the speculation

Here’s a theory:

I wonder if the rumoured £7 million was the bottom line figure before plenty of add-ons. That was rejected a week or more ago but the stories took a few days to appear. Since then Burnley came back with £10 million or so, plus a similar £10 mill in add-ons, which is around the level we were looking for.

If we are not looking for 20 million before add ons then I'd be worried. The lad has just had a great season and has all the raw ingredients to be at a top club with the right coaching and he is English. Get promoted with him and have a season with us in the Premier league he goes for 40 plus imo. Not to mention the financial benefit of promotion.

Are we really thinking Burnley, who recently came out of a transfer embargo, have been battling financial challenges for a while and have Zarouri in their squad, are really pushing hard for Clarke? Seems somewhat unlikley to me. I reckon they have other areas to spend their money on personally.

I think they would be mad not to look at him, even at 20m one good season in premier league doubles his value and he’s been clear that London didn’t really work and being nearer home and playing regularly has been transformational. I think the salary increase, club, location ( near home) and manager would all be quite attractive but I don’t think Clarke will be in a hurry to leave, that Burnley are quite in the position of being able to spend really big fees or that we will be keen to sell so doubt this transfer will happen.

Bellingham is set to join the Black Cats from Birmingham City, with the framework for a deal worth around £3m already in place. While there have been suggestions in recent days that the two clubs are still some way apart in their valuation of the 17-year-old, who is the younger brother of England international Jude, it is understood that a deal is effectively agreed.

Talks with Semedo have been similarly positive, with the 19-year-old striker close to sealing a move to the Stadium of Light.

Provided he is able to secure the necessary documentation needed to play in England, Semedo will join the Black Cats as a free agent following his release from Benfica, where he spent last season playing for the Portuguese club’s B team.

The £7m bid bear in mind had been reported as rejected, so nobody is thinking its that low. My fear was that Burnley will keep coming back with small increases. Bob saying £22m is music to my ears like.
