If Clarke stays with us this season, and I think he will, and we get promoted, why would he then want to move on?

Sustainability is not just about selling players for a profit, it's also about developing young talent to play at a higher level with us rather than having to look at expensive purchases. The core of talent we have at the moment in another year or two will be worth multi millions, keep adding new young developing talent and the future will take care of itself.

I agree with you but sustainability comes at a cost eventually. You build a model and with that comes a wage structure. Our wage bill is one of the lowest in the division so if someone comes in and offers to double/treble a young lads wage the likelihood is that they’re off - as would most people in any livelihood.

Take Stewart for arguments sake. He’s what, 26/27 now? Been playing at a crap level most of his career before coming to Sunderland and is now on the most money he’s ever been on.

But deep down he has 6/7 years left in him to get as much money out of the game as possible so even if someone like West Brom came in for him and offered him £25k a week whilst we offer £15k can you blame him for leaving?

I'm taking this as he's back on a 5 year deal.....

I think there is a half chance he comes back. It is not out of the question yet anyway. I appreciate people saying it is unlikely and I can see why but there is an appetite for another deal to be done according to somebody I know who will be closer to things than a lot of us. Same bloke told me Mowbray was going nowhere when lots were saying it was a done deal he was gone by the way.

Amad spending another year here doesn't add any value as a Manchester Utd asset. Hes done the Championship and proved hes worth a shot elsewhere. It'll be PL loan or a top league abroad with European football. Its the next step for him, not another season here.

It wouldn't make any sense for Utd to send him here again at all.

I really hope he does come back but it's a very long shot imo. Personally, I reckon they will sell him to help fund a rebuild for Ten Haag.

Would be class to announce Diallo, Henderson and Bellingham all on the same day though wouldn't it. <laugh>

If Carlsberg did transfers....

Diallo fits into our style of play, scores loads of wonder goals and the fans love him, which all ups his confidence, development and profile and therfore increases his value. If he went abroad or to a struggling prem team, playing kick and rush football and flopped it would have the opposite effect.
That's why it makes sense to come back. Plus he loves it here ;)

Add Stewart in there signing a new deal and I might have a Carlsberg or two myself <ok> .

But those are all things that benefit us, not Man Utd. Looking at it objectively, they need to send him to a PL side or a European side expected to fight at the top end of their league and in European competition. If he goes and does well in that scenario that he'll be a part of Utd's squad next season. If he doesn't they'll probably look to sell him.

Selfishly of course we all want him back, he was superb here.

I’ll be absolutely devastated if either of Roberts or Clarke aren’t with us come first day of season.

That said, utterly confident they both will be.

I agree with this saying ‘number 10’ over more wingers.

If we can get Amad back great, but I doubt it.

We have Bennette & Lihadj who be bigger players as cover for the 2 star lads, so a 10 makes sense.

Jacky and Paddy seem to love it here let’s keep it that way. Best pair since Magic & Nicky.

Totally agree - it just depends who they have lined up as replacements imo whether the bids are entertained. The club clearly isn't desperate for money after the reset of the last few seasons.
