I think Mowbray may walk if we sell Roberts, could be a final straw...

He's selling him to his brother as well :D

In all seriousness if Mowbray wasn't popular and Speakman wasn't so clearly in charge of transfers, Mowbray would be getting so much stick that two of our best players are leaving to join the club his brother is in charge of recruitment at.

If they were only willing to give Roberts a short contract at his young age then obv not fussed keeping him.

Hypothetically, would we accept £20 million double deal from Southampton for Clarke and Stewart? (No info).

Then with the money get two CF'S say Cannon and Rusky and a french winger and bank the rest?

I heard Southampton FC wanted two of players earlier in the week...but i thought it was Clarke...

Without wanting to be alarmist as I know I've been accused of turning negative already today.... but you have to wonder what the sentiment / mood at the club is with the players in not just seeing Stewart and possibly Roberts go... but also Gooch who is a popular lad. Batth who seems close to Pritch and both who are rumoured to be for sale.

I just wonder how that translates to convincing players tomorrow that this is a good place to come. Of course some will see it as an opportunity to play more games. But if Cannon, as an example, has a choice between us and someone else, I just wonder if us selling one of our main players he'd have been wanting to play aside, pushes us slightly further down the queue.

No idea if players even think like that like. But it hardly makes us more attractive to players.

Everyone is for sale at the club, everyone mate. we need to get used to these kind of windows mate. Self sustainable points to money outweighing success slightly in my opinion
I know that’s the reality of things with this owner but we don’t have to like it. I would like a more balanced approach, spending where necessary with an eye on balancing the books in the longer term.

I’ve liked the way the club have went about recruitment and knew the time would come for potential sales. Letting Stewart go is disappointing, understandable and I don’t have complaints with the fee or the decision. To let Roberts go as well, to a league rival, with no one currently in the squad capable of replacing his standards in the short term and to do it the day the window closes would be hard to accept. I’m happy to be patient with the clubs growth, but we’re Sunderland and some ambition needs to be shown.

Problem is, sell most of your best players, then you can't then play the football that allows the remaining good players to excel, meaning we'll go backwards.

The model only works if we sell in dribs and drabs. Selling them all at once ****s us.
Agree with that. It’s the contract failings that have got us here. At least some of the others are four or five years
