Never. You use the funds you bring in to build the better team, settled teams don’t really exist in football these days. Only 3/4 clubs in world football aren’t selling clubs. It’s the boring comparison now but look at Brighton, finished in European places and have sold 2 of their best players.

I agree with your Brighton comparison, but they have managed to do what they're doing while in the Premier league. Apple's and oranges so to speak. I'm looking forward to the next few years seeing what we do, personally I couldn't give a ****e about PL anymore.

All teams have to integrate ins and outs each year. The model is for young players to be brought in and developed rather than acquired, I guess the idea is you sell 2 or 3 every season when you’re ready.

Agreed, so essentially, never really kicking on. It's like moving into a house, doing it up, sell it, onto the next one, never really settling in. As it has been said, player movement is perpetual, we move with the times.

Okay then look at Brentford. They lost in the play off final, sold their two best players and used that money to build a squad that is now a top half premier league team.

But you do kick on because you sell 1/2 players and bring in 4/5 so as a squad you are better.

(Transfer related) Question, a hypothetical one so try and hold off with the pelters, re the "modle". If the modle is to buy young and cheap, develop and sell (good strategy for future proofing), at what point and when do we actually build a settled team and "kick on"?

We haven’t sold anyone really though, bar an absolutely ridiculous stroke of bizarre luck with Lihadji. Our current squad isn’t good enough to walk the league as we seen last season, so as much as people think we have the best player in every position in league we just don’t. We need a player sale to reinvest.

Brentford sold Maupay for 15m and signed Mbuemo, Jensen and Norgaard for about 12/13m. The 3 of those have been regulars in the PL the last few seasons. Not to mention them selling Watkins and Benrahma for £60m, who were both considerably better than the players we currently have when they sold them.

You can kick on, you buy a bigger house, nicer fittings/kit etc and do it up for more cash… as to your analogy. But it’s an attritional improvement, which is what we need to adjust to.

Its totally contradictory that i want our club to achieve promotion but i do not want to join and help support a league which is a huge stain on our game.

Yep. The football paradox is that.

The Premier League stinks like a wet rotting corpse, but if we get what we want every week, we'll end up there, marking time and making up the numbers.

Pity the countries and the self appointed " elite" hadn't scarpered when they looked like doing.

Yep. And built a ground while doing it. And they were selling players before then too.

Mind, they stuck with their manager after an absolutely horrific start . That is something we have only done a few times in the last forty years!

Worth adding that Brentford abandoned their youth policy as they knew they would be ripped off by other clubs. Only 18s and over there now.

I can see alot of ins and outs for us in this window still.
I think so. When holes appear in premier league teams we’ll be under pressure to sell our Crown Jewels and the three we expect to be off will be off and some will trigger incomings

Afternoon lads and lasses. Been away on my holidays. Have I missed much <laugh>

A quick glance over last few pages seems we have a striker close, but nobody yet knows who it is? Mowbray giving out some different messages re striker type - maybe because we are looking at 2 from 4 or 5. Stansfield would be a canny signing, would sooner a perm for a player of that profile. Replacements for Mowbray being looked at? Will only be a results based decision and I think everyone can see the performance levels. Dont underestimate the strength of feeling players have for Mowbray and Venus too. Roberts to Celtic? No chance in my opinion, he is very happy here and again Mowbray is a massive factor for him. Talking to others strikers? Great to hear and am still hoping Rusyn is one for us.

Anyway good to be back on here. Expecting a busy week and a half. Some outgoings are probable, perms and loans.

If, as KLD wishes, we become a truly sustainable club we'll be under no pressure to sell off our Crown Jewels ...

... that will put us in the position of the likes of Brentford and Brighton who can ask for silly money and get it.

Selling to suckers like Everton is a double bonus because they're spending themselves into oblivion.

And we're a club players like playing for, what a massive change.
