I just can't see Stewart as being so critical to us as some obviously, and reasonably, do.

He's a real worker and never stops making runs, pulling their defence around, defending free kicks and corners, etc. He finds space, scores goals, gets shots away, I'm not denying that.

But, from what I've seen, he doesn't have a great percentage of cleanly hit shots, doesn't always play other people in when he could and isn't convincing with one on one's with the keeper.

I think he's a good determined Championship player but I'm not convinced he'd make it in the PL. I'm also not convinced he's fully on board with what the club is trying to do.

I was upset when Kevin Philips went but I don't think I'd feel the same about Stewart tbh ...

... with height and power elsewhere in the side I'd be happy to see another, the size of Philips, as a focal point, perhaps playing alongside a 'Quinn' as the foil.

I'd like Stewart in the team, and firing, but would still have reservations.

.
I kind of agree with you mate. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy and he's been brilliant for us. It has been a meteoric rise for him. But, let's remember, he only played a handful of games at this level and was an unknown quantity and maybe took some defenders by surprise. Would he have kept the scoring run up? Not sure. Is he premier league class? I have my doubts. He's also had two very serious injuries and there is no guarantees he'll be as sharp when he returns. He's got more to prove to us rather than us pushing the boat and making him a ridiculous contract offer for him to stay.

Slightly off topic
Can anyone genuinely see Rigg breaking in the side and becoming part of the first team this season?

He's got the skill...it's whether he can handle the physical yet, which is much more intense now. There is a comparison with similar in my time....Colin Todd...who was a little bit older when he made his breakthrough....17? But,as soon as he came into the side you could tell he was there to stay.
Looking at Rigg....I don't want to dream, but think he may be the same.

Yes he will play plenty this season, and most importantly he will contribute.

He wont start every week and we have to be clever with how often we use him as hes still a young lad but since hes now left school he will be training full tine with the 1st team squad

I think he will break through this season and will take some shifting.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Ekwah though, telling for me that Mowbray mentioned that he’s quickly learnt to use his size and strength as well as his skill.
He will be ragdolling midfielders if he now has that in his skillset.
West Ham fans I work with who watched him playing for them still bang on about his ability to strike a ball cleanly from distance be it dead ball or otherwise.
We’ve yet to see that from him but he took up some great positions last season so hopefully he can develop that side of his game as well as we could do with the additional goal threat throughout the team including CM and CB.

With you here, the lad really excites me he is gonna be exceptional.

If he gets consistency to the level of the up games he will be a ridiculous player, keeping him gonna be the battle.

We absolutely pinched him as well.

I’m just really relaxed already having seen Hemir both in the games and in training.

Look for the video of him getting crosses pinged in and just smashing headers on goal, really impressive.
I’ve got no idea yet. Haven’t seen him play against the required level of opposition, along with the pressure of larger crowds in competitive games etc. Promising early signs but too early for me to decide how he will fair.

I thought he was exceptional after the Hull game, bit quiet in the second leg v Luton but we weren’t at it that night as a team.
The lad is an absolute beast but is a smashing gentle lad off the pitch and just wants to play somewhere he’s appreciated.
West Ham lads at work are still absolutely spewing that they let him come here and particularly since they have now lost Rice.
They think he should have been either loaned to us or been played alongside Rice at points during last season.
Absolute facking liberty is their take on it, great lads as well so it makes it all the sweeter that we’ve got him.

He’s been at Benfica 13 years he will be sound with pressure.

Agree though, standard of opposition not as high as the week to week.

Aye they weren’t keen when we grabbed Alese either.

Seems no real route to their first 11 for young lads, mad considering they just banked over £100million from developing Rice

Weird isn’t it.
Thought we might have nicked their big CF but looks like they may involve him now as it looks like Antonio is off.

Said this yesterday, big future with the club...

I'm also looking forward to Rigg breaking into the first team and scoring 15 odd goals. Being a Sunderland supporter hasn't been this good since the Reid 1999/2000 squads.

All a bit quiet.
Seems to be our way these days. Very little press info has been right lately
I think we will see a couple of completely out of the blue deals done over next couple of weeks.
Also think we will see a couple of high profile loans towards the end of the window.
