Don’t think we sell many shirts abroad. Club signing a deal with a local company kinda scuppered that even if there were demand
Did the last lot sign that? I read the current deal has another year to run, if so we should see a move to the global market after that.
By the way, I am conscious that I am rapidly getting out of my depth talking finance :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

no I think it was this lot. Davison will have gone for cost and bottom line rather than growth

Its a massive call, possibly the biggest yet imo. The only positive is it seems we have the talent (unproven at this level tho) already at the club to replace him

I’d like to think the conversations were more around the club can’t guarantee they will extend the contract and it’s more likely not to happen due to age, rather than a definite no. He should still get a chance to earn a new contract should he wish imo.

There’s no denying its a massive risk if he leaves but can’t blame the lad if he does for guaranteed game time and longer contract, I do however think it’s good that the club won’t stand in his way. It’s a tough one that’s for sure.

Guess it shows we have massive belief in the youth already at the club…which I find really promising.

Disagree with this, I think it's respectful to let him know where we stand. Gives him the option. He's perfectly welcome to stay with us for the year and try to get signed up somewhere else next summer, but if he's worried about finding a contract in a year's time then we won't stand in his way if he wants to search for a 2-year deal now.

I think it's just a massive risk. I mean DB hasn't show us that he is a liability or a concern. The opposite. An absolute rock who is a top pro and lives the right way. Very good leader to help the younger lads too. Sets the tone in training and match day squads.

He is only 32, not 52 ffs. I am struggling to work out why we would be happy for him to move on, all over a possible 12 month extension.

Brave call.

Yeah thats true, hopefully his agent is saying that he wants a 2 yr deal and we are saying we arent prepared to offer him that at the minute

Thats a great point about trusting the youth, these players are the key ones to our success

Itll be interesting to see what happens, ill always back the club as theyve earned that from us fans

Probably, but I would hope/expect that any deals signed would be commensurate with our position at that time. I don't think it's likely that global institutions would throw money at a League 1 club, likewise we shouldn't commit to deals that present a risk to us. I would hope that all deals signed would be building blocks to where we want to be

Someone otr claiming Thom Haye is on his way over today.

seems to keep popping up that name, would be good to take the evans role and to cover for each other..for all the younger lads did a good job i just think it is probably the main role where experience is vital.

Definitely has goals in him even if in preseason :D

Translation - he scored yesterday and missed a penalty; and scored 4 in their pre season on Monday

Agree on that front, personally I'd prefer we offer him a 2 year deal. I just disagree that the club are "ditching him".

It's a ridiculous decision, imo, if he allowed to leave because we refuse to give him another year. If that is the reason mind.

Fair enough. That's what he is paid yto do. From my view though it's incredibly risky to move on our best defender from last year and one that held it together for us.
He's a year older and will be another year older next year. He did great last season but we've recruited another 2 defenders who may have different attributes and might be better for the bigger picture of how we play. Yeah it's a risk to let him go but you can't just hoarde players.
