It shows it’s easier now, no playing the fourth team them days over god knows how many legs, you played the top team from each country, no room for cock ups.
So what you are saying is if Man City are in League 2 in 20 years time they are s hit now. Have I got that right?

You played the top team of each country but English football clubs were spending money, hence why they dominated European football in that period from 76-83 an English team won it every season bar one.

By that logic if I went and took Man City then put them in 3 knock out games against Dundalk, KuPS Kuopio and Malmo that’s a harder format than we currently have?

You had teams winning by 12+ goals in a single for **** sake :emoticon-0102-bigsm

So people think Guardiola is a fraud for battering every team they come across because they have a budget similar to teams around them but think Southgate is doing a wonderful job after winning nothing with one of the best international squads in world football..

If Pep was England manager I’d eat my own ****e if we didn’t win either the euros or World Cup at the first time of asking.

Worth looking at the difference between when Southgate opts for 3 at the back and Pep does.

England v Italy in the euros final when they absolutely pummelled us and somehow we took it to penalties, we had 3 centre backs with 2 full backs and 2 defensive midfielders. Meaning the only attack minded players on the pitch were Kane, Mount and Sterling.

City v Madrid, obviously a 4-0 win for city.

3 centre backs, 2 defensive midfielders with 4 attack minded midfielders behind a striker.

That’s not having an unlimited budget, that’s having a pair of bollocks and the tactical know how to beat your opponent - which Mancini did against England.
Pep wouldnt be an international coach in my opinion. He is all about huge amounts of time on the training pitch and repetition. You dont have that time as an international coach.

I rate both very highly and Pep is a genius in my opinion. But comparing club coaching to international coaching isnt right in my opinion.

Fair point!

A better comparison would be if he joined United instead of City when he did, in my opinion they would be the dominant team had they given him control of transfers like City. They wouldn’t have spunked over £300m on Sancho, Antony, Maguire and Fred I know that. Add Casemiro (who is quality by the way), Wan Bissaka and Martinez that’s nearly another £200m.

You do realise Man City beat a team in the final that ended 3rd in their league 18 points behind the leaders. Should say , just beat.

I agree but you are still saying he would spend 500 million better than they did<doh>

Not sure how the transfer thread has turned into is pep a great manager or not.

Back to transfer news - any rumours doing the rounds?

Feels like its been a quiet start for transfers across the championship, dont think any team has made a signing that im jealous of

Really happy with what weve done so far

I don’t think anyone has said Pep is not a good manager, just not as good as what they want you to believe.

Inter beat Barca who won La Liga this season.. Milan who won Serie A going into the season, Porto who won Premiera Liga..?

Been a slow start, we’ve done the best business so far imo it’s been really slow elsewhere. Wouldn’t have minded Rhys Healey on a free.

Tom Davies has been released by Everton, well turned down a new contract never hit his supposed potential…

He is a player that should be achieving much more with his talent. Everton are hardly the club to develop that talent mind, with the mgt appointments they make. I think he does right looking for another club. With the right coaching he could still be an England midfielder in my opinion.

I don’t understand your thoughts mate, you are saying because they won the title last year they are just as good this year even though they finished 3rd?

No, you stated playing against teams who won their respective league no matter which league that is, makes for a more difficult competition than nowadays because Inter Milan were in the final and finished 3rd.

I just stated that the team who finished 3rd in the league beat 3 teams who’d finished 1st in their domestic league - proof that playing the “best” team of said country doesn’t necessarily mean you’re playing a better team.

Apparently Dortmund want Hannibal Mejbri for £15m. I didn’t really rate him from what I’ve seen but I know a few of you think highly of him!

I'm never sure on Davies, as a youngster he looked class but has totally lost his way. Possibly down to Everton and there lack of developing of homegrown talent

Just wonder if hes one of these players that started to think he made it and has got careless
