Ola, Fer, Hooper, Toby would probably just about complete the squad then. That's still probably £20m + high wages though.

i wouldn't worry about the wages - we won't sign players unless they fit into the pay bracket. the club are keeping wages to less than 50% of turnover and quite rightly. amazingly, we are the only club in the premier league who can boast that <ok>

the advantage of signing players from the netherlands for example is that even at the top clubs, players never really earn more than £25k a week (i'm sure cove can confirm this), so they can possibly even get a pay rise and join us. hooper is on £20k a week according to the club so we could make him a very decent offer

That's one hell of a metaphor general! <laugh>

Blackburn have just signed Jay spearing on the condition that they sell a senior player first to make room. Olsson perhaps?

Give the lad time, it may happen it may not but this is a huge decision for him. We lack the glamour that the top clubs have and so players will naturally bide there time, weigh up their options and generally wringe every penny out of the club they finally join by not jumping too quickly. Lets remember we can offer him good but not great wages (by football standards) but we are very unlikely to give him winners medals or european competition. It would be like marrying the first girl you saw when you turned 18 (and it turning out to be that odious beast Jodie Marsh) only to walk round the corner and see Scarlett Johannsen next.
If he takes his time over the decision we can only hope that he rounds the corner and see's Susan boyle (QPR) or Anne Widdecombe (1p5wich) and thinks I'll have some of that Norwich (no beauty queen but appealing none the less - Myleene Klass) He could always divorce us in a couple of years if he manages to turn the head of a Russian super model!

Bah!

I don't believe everything I read but this could be worrying if true:

Norwich City Move For PSV Eindhoven Forward Ola Toivonen Hits Snag

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2013/0...psv-eindhoven-forward-ola-toivonen-hits-snag/

If he's not sure about leaving I think signing him is unlikely!

there's nothing wrong if a player is unsure of a move, especially as we aren't a big club. i'd much rather him be absolutely 100% sure than sign and then worry about it! if he doesn't feel we are the right move for him then i have no issue with that - he needs to think carefully about what he wants.

obviously the longer it drags on, the less likely he is to join and i've been very much 50/50 on this one from the start.

I reckon the transfer kitty may be slightly boosted compared to our initial estimates, if holt has gone for a reasonable price, vaughan bringing money in, Steer tribunal discussions ongoing and believed we want £2m + potential revenue from ayala and barnett. We might be able to add £5m to what we thought we had to spend?

Interesting quote from toby's dad.

"its true Toby had bigger teams in mind, but it's more about the complete picture"

Noticed the word had there, and not has...

Might be reading to much into it lol

I think we may see the twins in action for the first team next season as they are the only youth players who have gone to Austria. Also Olssen hasn't travelled on Blackburn's pre season according to some Lancashire Journos.

I think he is just keeping his options open and you can't blame him, I do think he might join us still as no one else seems to be interested, he'll know that have a good season with us and then more doors will open and contact or no contract if a player wants out he'll get it. If PSV do leave him to rot in the reserves/youth team as I thought they had threatened then even as a free agent next summer will everyone be as keen?

Bah!

If, and this is a fairly large if, we get Toivonen and Fer, you'd think that'd be the 2 main holes in our midfield filled. Then it'd be a striker or 2 and a left back. Seems reasonable. Though it rarely pans out that teams get all their first choice targets.

carrying on from colk's post, the possible holes (assuming ruddy stays) from last season were these (and who has or might fill them):

1x goalkeeper (nash);
2x left backs (garrido, olsson);
1x central defender (alderweireld);
1x central midfielder (fer);
1x attacking midfielder (toivonen);
1x winger (redmond);
2x strikers (van wolfswinkel, hooper, maybe one other)

you can argue the case as to whether we require a central defender but i don't think we can argue the other roles.

I don't know a great deal about Alderweireld if I'm honest, but from the little I have heard he would be a good signing. One question for the more clued-up though: has he played much at full back at all or is he just a centre half?

Eriksen is on 40k a week, Sulejmani was untill a week ago the highest paid player in the Eredivisie: 60k a week. Average top player wages are around 25-40k a week, I think Toivonen is on between 27-32k a week at PSV.

ok, so a few more than i was aware of, but only a handful. it's not like here where some truly ****e players earn £50-60k a week (paul konchesky was genuinely being paid £60k a week by liverpool)! toivonen on £32k a week is a little more than i'd have expected - i'd have said more like £22k so that'll be very interesting to see how any potential move to us develops, if indeed it does. what's happening with eriksen? liverpool wanted him but not heard much more on him moving. clearly has potential but i'm not convinced by his consistency myself. what do you think?

Prices in Euro's. And I want to say that the top notch players still get above 35k a week, most top players at feyenoord, PSV, Ajax, Vitesse and earn between 20-30k a week. Average players get between 8-20k and youngsters/lower table club players get 2-10k week.

So Toivonen would be on about £27k a week.

With Holty out it may be more achievable to pay more as the club grows. It's not miles out of our wage structure and it can be of-set by the low transfer fees from buying abroad.
