But we got Suarez, and Enrique and as you say Carroll and Hendo are good prospects. So it's not all doom and gloom. But yea, in fairness the money could have been spend a whole lot more wisely.
Carroll will never be worth what we paid. He's one of the most expensive signings of all time for goodness sake.
I agree, his true value is £14-21 million in my opinion. How much of the blame lies at Kenny's feet is open to debate, Comoli and his silly moneyball seemed to influence our signings.
More like £5-10m IMO. But who is to blame depends on who actually said, after the 30m bid was rejected, that we should still go for Carroll. Kenny claims that he gave the go ahead to sign every player in his time here but he's that sort of guy, you'd never find him trying to shift the blame off himself and onto someone else in public like that. And anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the owners that gave the go ahead to sign Carroll "no matter what" as going into the second half of the season having made a profit in their first transfer window wouldn't have been good PR for them.
Just imagine how much better value there is elsewhere. It's almost embarrassing. It will go down in football history as a joke, and it hurts to think of LFC in that way, but it's true.
12.35 BST Santos' vice-president, Odilio Rodrigues, has told Lancenet: "Ganso doesn't want to play for Santos anymore. We learned that from the club's president Luis Alvaro last Thursday. Ganso has lost his interest in Santos so we won't try to keep him anymore." COme on Rodgers, you know you want to, it feels good thinking about it, right?
He would have some friends and people who can speak portuguese to get him settled. I think Ganso is just class and if it could happen, hats off to whoever that said here is the dosh go do it. If we are getting Dempsey btw, we need to do it quick as we have games in 10 days or so? I know they want to show him off to the homeland if we get him.
Not one of the signings (including Charlie Adam) is as bad as Konchesky Of course, the signings Hodgson made were a fraction of the price too though
To be fair on Hodgson, he didnt have the budget or backing that Dalglish had. He couldnt really do much better than Konchesky and Poulson on that budget.
The fees we paid were ridiculous. The actual players we signed though? they were at least more sensible than Hodgson's signings Downing - Had a poor season and unfortunately I pretty much predicted it. Downing is infuriating though because he is capable of being a decent if unspectacular winger, but he doesn't even bother taking on his full back. He might as well play in Central midfield. Carroll - The potential is there but he needs time. Strikers of his type are typically late bloomers. Henderson - another one that needs time. If anything I think Dalglish used him way too much (and out of position as well) last season. He should have been eased into the side although Dalglish wasnt helped by injuries.
Reported by a journalist that Fox sports has said Clint Dempsey is off to Liverpool for 11m euros. Also reported we're favoured over Spurs to capture Sturridge, considering the signings Chelsea have made it looks likely he'll leave this season - where's he going to get a game? Could be as low as £10m. Could mean Borini, Dempsey and Sturridge for £30m. Bargain.
He's a strange one. Looked like the next big thing but doesn't seem to have progressed since his move to Arsenal. Has the odd blinding game, but then goes missing. Saying this, his stats last season were decent. Think he got about 10 goals and 15+ assists, although how many of those assists could be a simple side pass to someone who smashes it is so is a bit misleading.
or to RVP who was scoring for fun. I like the Sturridge rumors as well. Shows we are looking for mobility and pace which I prefer over the power factor. It really is all strange, not but maybe 2 months before the season was over, many would not be fussed about Carroll leaving and now it is a big deal. I know he hit form at the end but if he doesn't fit the system then he doesn't fit the system. Someone used Ibra earlier and he got papped out quick because as great as he is, he didn't work in that system like he should have, like Villa ( mobility and pace) and Eto'o ( same) did. Sturridge, Dempsey, Borini, Suarez I think that is quite good and should get us those goals.
Not sure on Sturridge. Again, he got goals but heard from Chelsea fans that he;s very selfish and runs down blind alleys and would lose possession too much. I think the thing with Carroll is if we sell him, we make a massive loss and it becomes a very embarrasing episode for the whole club. I think 90% of fans wouldn't be fussed if we got decent money and then replaced with 1 or 2 quality forwards/midfielders but know thats unlikely so best scenario would be to keep him, hope he does ok then sell him a few year later if hes still not a world beater.
