I thought you liked versatility? This is a cheaper version of what we were going to do anyway.
I do, but spending a good amount on a lad in a position where we’ve got plenty isn’t gonna do much for us. We don’t need him to play midfield either. We balance the squad better with a player who primarily plays centre half. Better talent but inexperience centrally. Half these defenders won’t get past 800 mins this season.

I think it would be a really sensible signing. Covers right back, centre back and centre midfield during AFCON. Allows Mukiele to play in a balanced centre back pairing with Alderete, and means we don’t have to bring in another centre back.
Yeah gives a CB Mukiele a very balanced right back which he will need over the course of the season.

Is it ****. We’ve already got too many left backs. Why do we need to add another right back? We’d be far better off adding a proper centre half option to push Onien down to fifth choice and allow mukiele to cover both. Given how robust Hume is, this is overkill in a position where we’ve got sufficient cover, while leaving us needing a little more quality in a more important position.
Could be making Mukiele our RCB. Don’t bother with lucumi and then get this lad in for RB and save a load of money depending on this lads fee

then go out and get a good attacker?

Doesn’t answer our centre half need though. We’d be going with Alderete and Mukiele backed up by Onien and Ballard. Wind that back a week on here and plenty were telling me that we couldn’t possibly go forward with so few options.

This part interests me, which ones are you classing as "these defenders", as in what's your first team list that you want the minutes shared between.

Well wed be going with alderete and Mukiele, backed up by geertruida, Ballard, O'Nien since geertruida can of course also play CB.

Tbf it does as Mukiele now becomes a CB and this lad can play RB and CB and a 6

It’s the same thing as signing Lucumi really but more versatility and cheaper

Reinildo can also play CB btw
I know, but that’s not the outright strength in depth that was a must-have on this thread in recent weeks though. For me this just isn’t a great pivot. We wanted a true starting centre half and we’re now getting cover for a few positions that a few days ago everyone was super confident that we were perfectly well covered for two of. That doesn’t scream concrete planning to me. Fine if it’s a loan and we’re doing what we can do in the short time we’ve got left. But I’m not piping Ghisolfi off for this one just yet.

It’s fairly mad to me that with less than 24 hours to go of the window with us, in my opinion, needing to do 15 or so more pieces of business that this thread is falling down the board with no posts for 45 minutes due to the lack of links.

I personally fully expect that we’re going to fall short of what we need to do now, at least on outgoings.

That's entirely a 'que sera' situation for me ...

... absolutely no point even sparing a second worrying about things I've no say in.

As I've said from before the window even opened, supporters will always want 'just one more'.

It isn’t close to being the same tbf. Lucumi was a starter that left Mukiele as first option for two positions. Sure, it’s a body, but it certainly wasn’t the plan.

Who's to say we wouldn't still sign a CB, even though that would be your nightmare.

Played most of his games at rb leipzig at centre back. 13 centre back and 7 right back according to transfermarket
He was linked to Liverpool in June '24 and played the majority of games at RB that season. I've just been checking into it. Here is a bit from that link:

Liverpool.com says: When looking at the profile of the player, it is clear to see why Liverpool is interested. His versatility is one of his main strengths with his ability to play multiple positions. Liverpool was plagued by injuries throughout 2023/24 and with 75% of his appearances coming at right-back and the other 25% of them arriving elsewhere on the pitch, Geertruida offers crucial depth across multiple positions.

Does it matter? Lucumi isn’t being let go and we’ve just watched Mukiele have an unreal debut at CB. Move him there and sign a RB, save money and allow more funds for an attacker?

I think that makes sense but everyone is entitled to an opinion
