Whoever comes in for centre half has to have pace and be physically ready for the premier league, that’s why we haven’t pursued the Mepham deal in my opinion as he’s too similar to Ballard but Ballard is decent in the air and isn’t a slouch but a little slow on the turn so need someone with pace to cover if he does get turned

Probably more a discussion for the match thread but I’d rather have Renildo (sp?) up against Bowen with his experience rather than shoe horn him in at CB. As things stand would bring Seelt in even though I share the concerns about his physicality, he might surprise and give us an option there. Even if we do manage a CB early next week it will not be ideal throwing them in straight away.

Winger from Bournemouth would be an exciting one, wonder if we could do a loan with an option upon survival. Hamed Traore was linked from there as well.

It’s almost inconceivable we will not be signing at least 1 CB.
They’ve spent about £130m on quality players but if we have a weak spot ALL the opposing teams will target it and bypass our new lads.

They’ve done about 90% of the work to give us a good chance of staying up so they will not waste all that money by leaving a weak area for other teams to exploit.

If we are playing a team with a big area that is a bit weak, we would go for that area, it’s just so obvious.
KLD and Co will be getting CB(s) in, don’t worry.

My only problem is we have games coming up where we can get points so the sooner they come in the better.

That's what I would do too.

We need to buy 2 centre backs better than him. Even if/when we do, do we still not need a centre back of his ilk floating around the place in case of emergencies?
We've got loads of 'squad player' level centre halves already on the books. They're just injured short term. We need that stick on quality player (perhaps two). We don't want to add more squad padding for the whole season just to cover us for 1-2 games IMO.

I agree with this. Bowen is the biggest threat. Get Seelt working close to the other two, reading the game. Let Ballard do the physical battle. Not a fan of shoehorning people unless it’s a must. Seelt is no midget he just needs to show aggression and prove himself. If he’s injured mind we’re in a mess and I don’t feel comfortable with him and Ballard with Huggins on the bench who are walking injuries.

Fullkrug is a really good ST in my opinion be tough game for our centre halves but he does match the style of player Ballard does well against

Time doesn't guarantee the best options. It could be the better options have been picked up and you move down the list in desperation. No matter which way it's looked upon the club need to seal the deals for the centre backs they deem worthy. Ideally, this absolutely should have happend by now.

In an ideal world, I would assume it would've happened but going off other signings we're only 1 team up against what may be classed as better alternatives considering we've just been promoted. We cannot and shouldn't be expecting players to sign just because we're now in the premier

On the Bowen thing, it looks like WHU have been using a back three all summer, with Bowen playing up top in a two. Expect he'll pop up all over, but I wouldn't think he'll be pinned to the right flank. Dunno what that means for our defensive options though:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Getting Mepham in as a temporary starter/squad player is starting to look more and more appealing like.
Only if we’re moving our competition CB’s on. If Seelt, O’Nien or Hjelde were going he’d be a decent replacement but we’d still need two first choice CB’s.
