In my opinion,DCL is exactly the kind of player we'd have signed in our previous lives, and I hope we don't go anywhere near him. He's been up there and come back down, injury prone, high earner, his present club, who are hardly top contenders, want rid.Given his age, what sort of length contract would he want. Signing him goes against all our previous mantras.....if Everton want to do a part ex deal for Neil, don't take it. If they want Neil, they'll have to buy him outright.
He's a free transfer, that's the only reason I'd be semi ok with it - depending on wages

Runour is he wants 100k so I wohldnt be going anywhere near him for that

Helicopter been to the AoL

So this is the flight track

Blackpool airport -> Liverpool airport at 6:33am landing at 6:46am

Liverpool airport -> Blackpool airport at 7:44am landing at 7:58 am

Blackpool airport -> Sunderland Nissan helipad (is what it’s listed as but lad sanded it landed at AoL)

Now it’s currently leaving Sunderland , assuming back to Blackpool airport.

Anybody come into Liverpool John Lennon airport this morning?
We were linked with Joe Gomez at one point

Our MO is signing experienced players on free transfers tho to compliment exciting young players

I cant see it happening, and def not disappointed if it didn't, just don't think he would be the worst risks
Yes,agree. But signing players like Xhaka and Reinildo to compliment our young players is not the same prospectus as someone like DCL?

Those of them that are still in the denial stage of grief over this window are blaming all their woes on PSR still but that requires some serious wilful ignorance.

Surely they see that after four years there’s no movement on the training ground or investment in the stadium, a hierarchical and behind the scenes set up and structure that’s bettered by some L1 clubs and now PIF indirectly bank rolling their ‘direct rivals’ like Chelsea and Liverpool. There must be some realisation that PSR imposes no restrictions on any of that but that changes there would make a huge difference to the club’s progress and ability to compete.

The cash required to implement it all is almost literally immaterial to PIF so it could all change almost overnight.

If they appoint a decent DoF (the lad from Forest seems most likely) then I could see them having a good January window with some opportunity for planning and the Isak funds available (in terms of cash and PSR headroom) but there’s no question that they’ve suffered some serious reputational damage this window with how it’s played out so publicly and it will take a while to shake, not to mention the impact it must be having internally on players already at the club and their considerations of their own ambitions and futures.

The thing is that they've already had two good directors of football. Getting Ashworth and Mitchell were seen as big coups. Ashworth was credited for the work at the National Football centre that saw England win under aged world cups and then helping build Brighton to an established EPL team. But rumours were inside a year of being appointed that Ashworth wasn't happy there and he jumped at the chance to work for Man U as soon as they approached him. I know it went wrong at Man U for him, but he's been reappointed by the FA as chief football officer.

Mitchell was head hunted from Monaco after four years there and had a great reputation after working there, Southampton, Spurs and Leipzig. Yet he's left after one year.

All that suggests is that there's issues behind the scenes and if it carries on, no one will be either successful or there long

Don't think it's far off it tho, I would hate it if he was the only CF that came in - however looks like Marc Guiu is joining

The odd experience player is key to help the talented lads, from what ive heard about DCL is he's great around the dressing room and in training - could help our forwards

The biggest question marks are his fitness and wages tho

I would hate someone like Joe Gomez to come in, he would be expected to be a key player and would cost loads but is always injured. I could live with DCL coming in as a 3rd or 4th choice CF option on a reasonable wage

I cant see us signing him anyway, I could actually see Newcastle go for him

They probably had it in their mind that they were the next Man City constantly challenging for titles.

What they’ve forgotten is it took Man City a few years to be this good after the takeover, and that was without PSR restrictions (something Newcastle completely complain about, but decided to vote in favour).

It’s almost like they’re only complaining about PSR because it’s hampering them, nothing to do with the ‘good of the game’ etc.

Cretins.

Man City were also much further on in infrastructure than the mags were at the same stage. A much more modern stadium, proper investment in the training facilities and academy, regular academy players at least getting breaks to play in the first team, an up to date scouting network... It's why they were so attractive to the Abu Dhabi lot in the first place, not a huge amount needed doing. Night and day to that lot up the road.
