He's a free transfer, that's the only reason I'd be semi ok with it - depending on wages Runour is he wants 100k so I wohldnt be going anywhere near him for that
Our MO is signing experienced players on free transfers tho to compliment exciting young players I cant see it happening, and def not disappointed if it didn't, just don't think he would be the worst risks
Yes,agree. But signing players like Xhaka and Reinildo to compliment our young players is not the same prospectus as someone like DCL?
The thing is that they've already had two good directors of football. Getting Ashworth and Mitchell were seen as big coups. Ashworth was credited for the work at the National Football centre that saw England win under aged world cups and then helping build Brighton to an established EPL team. But rumours were inside a year of being appointed that Ashworth wasn't happy there and he jumped at the chance to work for Man U as soon as they approached him. I know it went wrong at Man U for him, but he's been reappointed by the FA as chief football officer. Mitchell was head hunted from Monaco after four years there and had a great reputation after working there, Southampton, Spurs and Leipzig. Yet he's left after one year. All that suggests is that there's issues behind the scenes and if it carries on, no one will be either successful or there long
Don't think it's far off it tho, I would hate it if he was the only CF that came in - however looks like Marc Guiu is joining The odd experience player is key to help the talented lads, from what ive heard about DCL is he's great around the dressing room and in training - could help our forwards The biggest question marks are his fitness and wages tho I would hate someone like Joe Gomez to come in, he would be expected to be a key player and would cost loads but is always injured. I could live with DCL coming in as a 3rd or 4th choice CF option on a reasonable wage I cant see us signing him anyway, I could actually see Newcastle go for him
Man City were also much further on in infrastructure than the mags were at the same stage. A much more modern stadium, proper investment in the training facilities and academy, regular academy players at least getting breaks to play in the first team, an up to date scouting network... It's why they were so attractive to the Abu Dhabi lot in the first place, not a huge amount needed doing. Night and day to that lot up the road.
