Keith Downie said he done some digging and Mepham hasn’t got the profile we want in the premier league

Yeah, I listened to that on the podcast he was on. These things can change as the window progresses, though.

My thinking is if we’re struggling to get our main targets they might think it’s worthwhile bringing him back on the cheap for another option. I wouldn’t mind having him as 3rd/4th choice if it means we can splash that bit extra to get a really impressive target like Diakite for the first XI.

Thats why chelsea won't get exactly what they demand, full wage, no option to buy etc. doesn't really work for the loaning team. If however it was a full wage then you could certainly assume its to be first choice yea

Certainly expecting him to be important now, although with his wage being 50k rather than the 120k suggested its less of a necessity as thats less than half what was involved in my reasoning

Correct, at Sunderland the only person pulling KLD's pants down is Mrs KLD <laugh>

I think this is a great move by the club, absolutely perfect and the CF/PL loan I always expected.

As I said the other day 'A purchase could mean the end of a promising player, like Mayenda or Isidor ...

... a loan gives everyone a breathing space which I like the sound of.'

If we signed a top CF, on a 5 year deal, one of those two would probably be sold imo.

Yeah it works for me, expecting the other loan to be a top winger/attacking midfielder whos a bit out of favour or been injured:

Looking at the sort of players like Grealish, Bobb, Mount etc. (Not saying them but that kind of player).

Also with how intense our pressing is up front it gives the chance to rotate/rest mayenda and guiu.

In this transfer window we’ve gone from a team with very little experience higher than the championship to a squad with 313 premier appearances (some of which would surprise people) and 50 champions league appearances

we still have a month to add to that it’s definitely been a window beyond what we could have imagined leaving Wembley

Isn't it hilarious how, all of a sudden, we're talking about players we wouldn't have dared mention a season ago.
