He does miss too many games but we’ve got a lot worse. Alese for example.
I posted cirkins stats the other day by appearances from his first season

So it was the end of season 2 and then season 3 that ruined him. He looked after himself over the summer with rehab camps etc and played the majority of last season. If you take out season 3 he averaged 36 games a season for the other 3.

he just got a bad surgery and played the rest of last season even after getting the bad surgery on his wrist

Neil has been playing musical chairs with the club ...

... now the music's stopped and there's no chairs left imo.

All a little sad and I can't see a way back, I think he was at Sunderland so long he thought he was integral.

Sadly/happily no one is bigger than the club.

My thinking , looking at it from what we know and what we can reasonably guess, is that he has a very bad agent. If Dan is following him too closely, which too many players do, then that agent has already cost him a lot of money.

Agents make more money when players move. Players need to set themselves up as soon as possible, then crack on and go forward. Dan is not set up yet, and his agent probably has other players.

Data is an old as Allardyce and beyond, he was using it at Bolton for years ...

... it's the internet that's made it available to everyone, whether they study it or not.

Schoolkids do vlogs that look like pro-presentations and have stats coming out of their ears.

It's great because it means those who can't get to games, and see players live, can feel involved.

You're right that the likes of Shankly did it all by touch and intuition, and did quite well ...

... but football keeps evolving, not always for the best tbh.

But much of it is good and even better if they stop keepers having a mystery injury every twenty minutes <laugh>
It's relatively new that every man and his dog on Twitter and internet forums has access to more and are more inclined to use it. Most completely base level stuff and butchering their interpretations and reading of it.

There's increasingly a dunning kruger effect with it across the internet. I can't stand people that dismiss (and sneer at) data and its use in football but I'm not fond either of people that completely (but yet confidently) misuse it.

That's why I try not to give to much of my opinion based on data and only deal with the types I actually understand myself.

By new I meant the level of detail

data has always been there of course but the detail is growing season on season

That comment isn't really targeted at this forum (though in my opinion it does apply to a few) - more an observation of the internet and the discourse on it as a whole.

Pretty good that mind. Especially for a lad who puts himself among it. I like him a lot, he's still young and I really hope he signs up.

He has had some odd injuries too, not normal football knocks. I think he got his jaw smashed in at Millwall, and another whack in the face from someone else. They shouldn't really happen again.I think he fits here, and I hope he sees that too.

I couldn't agree more tbh.

There's a balance with it all and that will be disrupted more and much quicker as technology advances, AI is a timebomb.

The amount of people posting 'facts & stats', is growing exponentially.

It's great fun watching the vloggers, from different clubs, when they 'report' on Sunderland's game against them ...

... inevitably biased as hell and full of mistakes.

Then Ten Trenches Deep comes along and, in my mind, clarifies and simplifies.

That's because, imo, he hits the right balance between stats and knowledge ...

... you can't rely on too much of one and not enough of the other in my opinion.
