Injury record isn’t great, broken collar bone, ruptured tendon and broken leg in last 3/4 seasons and has never really established himself there as first choice. They paid 7.5m in 2021 and are allegedly asking 26m. Not convinced but his player attributes would fit.
I retract my statement

Bologna Transfer Market: Jhon Lucumi Is No Longer Up for Sale

Dan Ndoye's fairytale with the rossoblù has reached the end credits, while Jhon Lucumi will continue to wear the Bologna jersey . The club had built a wall: between the Swiss and the Colombian, only one of the two will leave the city. Well, yesterday it was confirmed that the match winner of the Coppa Italia final will leave Bologna, while the central defender remains locked in Bologna.

The Rossoblu management has already spoken with Lucumi : regardless of possible offers from Sunderland or the interest of teams like Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, and Betis, the Colombian will remain in Bologna . The Premier League club had attempted to make a move by increasing the fee to €25 million (including bonuses), coming close to the Rossoblu's asking price of €28 million, but to no avail. Jhon Lucumi is no longer in the spotlight and, with his contract expiring in 2027, answers are awaited regarding his renewal .

Pretty much what Bayern Leverkeusen said.

So, if he doesn't renew, will they allow him to run down his contract and leave for nowt next summer. Somehow, I doubt it. Sounds like a load of flannel to get the offer upped.
They can’t stop him running down his contract if he wants to and it runs to 27 so he wouldn’t be free next summer. I think they’ll still sell though.

Coukdnt that be triggered next summer? Sure that has happened with options- we did it with Reece James and flogged him about a week later.
It could be i don't think that everyone else would have been talking about his contract running out and them having to sell if suddenly he wasnt out of contract - wasnt much of a source anyway.

Aw yeah I agree. I just dont see us stripping Neil of the captaincy for Xhaka, that just doesnt feel like something we would do imo. Local lad, whole life in the academy, been key in our rise from our lowest ever moment and in his first year as captain lead us to promotion back to the Prem. Would just feel off to me if he was staying and we took it off him, which is why I think if Xhaka is captain, Neil will be going.

Whole contract situation has been a bit of a shame if this is the end of his time here. Would of liked an extension with him competing against the current crop of midfield lads.
Only one person not signing it. Hes had it long enough

I don't like the idea of a new lad coming in and being captain immediately. Just a personal opinion. Nowt to do with Dan Neil in this instance as I believe he is leaving. In my opinion a captaincy is earned in an environment, not brought into an environment. Whilst I am 100% behind the signing of Xhaka as the key man in our midfield, I would have liked to have seen Regis have someone on the pitch who is his right hand man in that environment. Maybe the fact we are seemingly going for a whole new 11, give or take, makes it irrelevant. Generally though a captain is someone who knows the players, staff, culture etc well. The role is significant enough in my opinion to warrant a bit more care with it. But it really is only an opinion that isn't important in anyway outside of my own little footballing bubble.

I can see that. But if Luke remains club captain then some of those reservations might be moot.

As a player, I doubt anyone will have any bother with Xhaka being captain, and with Luke being so collegiate, they should work out alright together I think.

I'm not as sure as you are either about a whole new 11. Certainly, last season's players will have to earn their place, but so will the new ones. I'd be very surprised if Cirkin, Neil, Ballard, Hume, Rigg, Roberts, Eli Isidor, Patto , ONien didn't feature well this season, though maybe in a couple of cases if they want to stay. But they don't have to carry the team.

I think we are trying to chart a course that gives us a chance. Still predominantly young, but with some much needed nous thrown in.

IMO we absolutely have to play, and develop Ballard, Hume, Rigg, Isidor, Patto, Huggins, Alese, etc ....

... they're our next big earners and the only way we'll stay sustainable.

We can't just bring in high cost foreign players, on big contracts, then wonder where all the money's gone.

Exact same situation as Xhaka for me. Bologna don’t have a lot of power here and are actively scouting / offering for a replacement

if he’s not for sale they wouldn’t do that

Think his contract runs to 2027 so won't be free next year, I may be wrong though
