It's hard to keep up in this thread... I can't remember what happened with Lammens, I think we were quite tenuously linked at one point but was it ever anything more than pure speculation? Have we got any chance of landing him at all or is he United bound?
I'm a lot older, and believe me, once upon a time, you had to wait.
A little story while we wait for Grannit.
I was once in a quite remote area of Greece, in the late seventies. Not long out of school really, but my two weeks plus hols, plus a week unpaid before it and a (planned) week on the sick afterwards. No flights, a mixture of trains, hitching, boats and buses. I'm not sure anyone does this kind of thing now, and I don't bloody blame them.
It's too long a story as to why we were there, but it was so far out man. It could have been 1940!
Hardly any phones that worked. No papers. Nowhere to get the World Service. Barely a word of English spoken. Nowt.
I wanted to know the score of a match, so I borrowed a bike and cycled to what I took to be the nearest place where I could buy a paper . This was a Wednesday. Two hours later, after biking in a mad, broiling Greek sun, I found a little kiosk and bought a copy of Monday's (I think)Times, the only English thing they had, looked up the score in a remote square, shouted some get the feck ins, left the paper where it was and went back!
We won 2-0 by the way. Home to W Brom
And we went up. It was a character forming month!
Sounds like United might be pushing on with him

Had a work meeting with a new supplier. He spotted all my Sunderland gear on my office wall and we got talking footy. He is a West Ham fan and clearly obsessed with all things footy. He thinks we are making a cracking fist of our signings and if we get Xhaka he reckons we survive. He asked why do Sunderland fans not rate Patto - I said because there are no specsavers in Sunderland 
Seriously - he was really surprised we might replace him. I said we might be shy of some goals and he said no West Ham player has scored 12 in the last X seasons and it has never felt a problem. I did say they have Bowen though. Genuinely interested to listen his thoughts on Xhaka and centre forwards. I tend to lean to a CF that can bring all the wide lads into the game with his back to goal but we will see. He asked about ONien and his view let him come on and wind players up - they will hate it. He also about Neil because West Ham have been linked in the past - I told him he was better than Bobby Moore and Trevor Brooking combined . Overall seemed really upbeat about our chances but the Xhaka thing has clearly made him take notice!

yeh in my place of work nobody talks to me about Sunderland but I’ve had two people in the last two days message me on Teams about Xhaka. It’s the kind of transfer which fans of other clubs, and indeed the world, pay attention to.
