Rare you get appointed into the premier league in your first ever management job. Only one I can think of is Mikel Arteta.

Steve Kean at Blackburn is one that springs to mind but that's a good 15 years ago now, I think Villa might have had one during their years before they got relegated (fact checked: untrue at 14:06). You're right though, this is very rare and I imagine mostly unsuccessful.

Aye, I look at Ipswich’ signings last season and £20m seems the going rate for bang average players over here now it’s worrying. Glad we look to be targeting European leagues but I can’t lie I’m not really getting too excited over a few of the names we’ve seen mentioned in the last few days ie Lauriente/Baradji. Be plenty of links over the next 9 or so weeks though so be others that are exciting, like Bischoff.

I think some fans are just desperate for another through the door at this stage so anyone will do :emoticon-0102-bigsm
Just wondering, why aren't you excited at Lauriente but you are for Bischoff?

I'm more comfortable with the Baradji link than the Lauriente one I think. Higher position of need at a much more palatable price. One that fits in the odds and sods category rather than the 5 key signings one, you'd imagine. Effectively a direct swap for Ekwah with the hope that he can contribute more.

Are people writing Lauriente off because he's played one season in Serie B?

His stats and ratings are perfectly good in Serie A and Ligue 1.

Also we need wingers desperately, Mundle isn't enough, we need proper competition and depth, I also wouldn't rely on Mundle to play most games, considering he's just had 2 hamstring injuries not long after eachother

Article here from Kieron Maguire outline what we could potentially do - bit old news but been brought up a couple of times today

Being honest I view that as a bit of a throwaway comment. There's probably a way of making that number something you could swallow over a single season (if you maximise the amortisation window on every transfer it amounts to £40m a year over 5 years). However, the question is what that allows you to do in year two. If we max out next season we've got no wiggle room for 26/27 without a big sale or two. It's all about the annual loss. Our 24/25 accounts will help us for the next few years due to the Jobe and Watson sales, but it we max out next year it stores up trouble that could well hit us the season after, but certainly clobber us in 27/28.

In regards to a fee for Lauriente I found this from June 14th

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/s...r-hunt-for-sassuolo-forward-armand-lauriente/

Armand Lauriente transfer latest as Marseille, Roma and Sunderland circle
That’s after ASRomaLive revealed that the Rome outfit, Marseille and Sunderland are all fans of the player, with Fiorentina and Bologna also keeping tabs on the forward.

They claim that Sassuolo are willing to do business for their star man if they receive a fee in the region of €20 million, having scored 19 times in all competitions last season.

I love Mundle and would be sad but those two would be very solid replacements I reckon
Yeah I agree, would be good for us financially and more than adequate replacements - although I don't think he would want to go back.

What would be the general opinion if we signed Lauriente and Bischoff but sold Mundle to spurs for their homegrown quota?
Disappointed personally, but I guess it makes a bit more sense in terms of squad management. Would be hugely price dependent too. If we get more for Mundle than we spend on Lauriente then we're maintaining a decent spot. Would be another erosion of an excellent squad culture though.
