Some data stuff on Lauriente. Considering he's played a load of minutes in top flights, i'm choosing to ignore this last season in Serie B.

His shooting and creativity fell off in 23/24 compared to 22/23, however I think a big part of that was playing in a much worse team. His ball carrying is very good, which is clearly a thing we look for in wingers. Only real concern I have from an attacking standpoint is he takes a lot of bad shots, which is something I criticise Roberts for.

I think it's a good signing based on what he has done in Serie A and Ligue 1 in his career.

Good insights, watching him from highlights of his season in 2024, he looks so good on the ball and ball carrying like you say

Def don't want us to go the Forrest route, they spent so much on bang average players and breached FFP. They did sign some real quality but the majority of the signings when they 1st went up was poor. Their recruitment has been better last couple windows when they've focused on quality over quantity

We need to be signing quality players who have the physicality needed to play in the PL

If that’s true and he comes to Sunderland over the likes of Marseille that would be amazing. I can’t see I happening though

Keith Downie did say we weren’t going in for JH in all fairness, I was in the minority but I believed him , not that I agree as he would be perfect for us

Southampton spent more than that last season and were one of the worst teams to ever play in the PL, which is worrying! I’d like us to be pushing closer to £150m after selling Jobe but quality over quantity. 4-5 real big improvemenrs in the starting Xl and a few decent squad players.

I see all the benefits Hendo brings but won't be disappointed if he goes elsewhere.

Five players at around that £20m mark would improve us massively - if they are the right players. Southampton didn't do well with their big purchases and then compounded it with an inappropriate game model that they discarded far too late. That question of making sure we are judicious in our big signings is probably the thing that makes me hesitate a bit on Lauriente, though. There are other spots in our current best XI that I'd look to first. Probably also why I'd be keen to avoid dropping a load of wedge on a striker too. £20m doesn't get you much up top these days!

Love Hendo and I'm probably more positive about his signing than some. However its back to numbers again for me. We've only really got room for two more in that area that are strong contenders for a starting spot (plus perhaps one more shot to nothing type signing). Bringing in JH puts a lot of pressure on us getting that one other high profile signing absolutely spot on.

Armand Laurienté , MVP and top scorer of the last Serie B championship, has ended up in Sunderland 's sights after the great season he played with the black-green jersey. As reported by Matteo Moretto , in fact, the English club is in negotiations with Sassuolo for the French winger: we will see in the next few hours if the deal goes through but in the meantime we can record the contacts between the two teams for the farewell of the class of '98.

Laurienté felt indebted for the relegation but now that the debt has been paid with the promotion to Serie A he could consider leaving. In fact, last summer the Frenchman was ready to pack his bags but the resistance of the owners convinced the player to stay for at least another year.

Aye, I look at Ipswich’ signings last season and £20m seems the going rate for bang average players over here now it’s worrying. Glad we look to be targeting European leagues but I can’t lie I’m not really getting too excited over a few of the names we’ve seen mentioned in the last few days ie Lauriente/Baradji. Be plenty of links over the next 9 or so weeks though so be others that are exciting, like Bischoff.

I think some fans are just desperate for another through the door at this stage so anyone will do :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Forget £200m to spend. For one thing, the implied massive wages would be untenable if we tried signing say five players at £4Om or whatever.

It is a simplistic figure, made mostly a of a mix of press remarks regarding the £200m which will come over three seasons. It is not available to spend.

On top of that, all current wages will increase and others coming in will add to the wage bill, though we will get increased commercial income.

The figure is also sometimes calculated assuming the max spend allowed under PSR. This includes the maximum loss allowed.

Nothing in the way the club has been ran by KLD suggests we will go nuts in that manner, and I for one am grateful for that fact.

We'll spend, we'll recruit. But we'll do it with the same pragmatic approach, albeit stepped up a level.
