That's good news if true. Doesn't tally up with "Juventus and Newcastle were close to signing him" though imo.

I think it does check out. Feels like KLD does a lot of DD in an extended period of time and identifies directors/managers who would fit Sunderland but aren't necessarily available. Nothing to say he hasn't been in light contact with FG whilst he's employed elsewhere over the last couple of years in hope that one day he becomes available that we would be able to get him. That's not to say other clubs haven't done this, but it would make more sense how we've been able to convince him to join here over Juve for example.

Think of when Gerhard Struber came to watch one of our random midweek fixtures, yes we didn't end up getting him but I imagine we were identifying if he would have been a Sunderland fit for the future.

I think everyone should look at his time pre Roma. Their ownership are bonkers and limited him doing his job.

everywhere else he’s been loved and Farioli specifically was desperate to keep him

I just wonder if the first ,err, informal contact with him was when we were looking at Farioli. KLD then kept in touch, mentioning our vision etc, networking if you like and a couple of years down the line an opportunity arose.

Is this a concrete link I see?

If we do sign him, think he could work in a more RLB defensive system? @SourPatch2
All depends who you partner him with. Caleta-Car + one of our existing CBs won't be good enough. He's good in the air and his box defending is pretty solid. Gets spun way too easily and some of his positioning while defending higher up the pitch is poor.

Biggest concern is that apparently his attitude stinks. That's just based on what Southampton fans have said though so could be a load of ****.
