Patto is a big game player and there’s 30 odd big games next season. He gets the number 1 every day of the week. Think back to the 2 biggest games of the past years Wycombe and Sheff utd, who made the crucial saves to keep us in the game in both matches.

I’d go out and get a young high potential cup goal keeper to push Patto and give him a break if the worst happens. My pick is the young lad at AZ. And stick Moore around the place as an experienced English 3rd option.
I'd probably hold off on the youngsters and just pick up a more seasoned option. We've got to keep one eye on Matty Young. Managing him through to first team will be tough if we can stick about in the PL. We got lucky when Pickford turned up as there was no way that Moyes was giving him the shirt without the injury to Mannone. Another young keeper in the mix probably just muddies the waters

Patto 100% deserves to be our number 1 to start next season and see how he adapts to the premier league. I'd absolutely hate for us to replace him. His form improved drastically towards the end of the season once he'd shifted some weight. And even if it hadn't, the save from Keiffer Moore in the 2nd minute of the playoff final was enough for me to see him as a legend. Its up with Monty in my eyes (I'm too young to have experienced that live).

Being a premier league club with your own academy keeper is a special privilege. And we have a fairly unique opportunity to grow as a premier league club with "one of our own" in goal. And maybe even as backup and successor in Young.

But as debated yesterday I do want a better back up to him for the immediate, someone who is ready to take over should Patto get injured or have a poor run of form. A young goalkeeper who has had first team experience but will relish the opportunity to be in the premier league and with no prospect of a world cup call up so will settle for a place on the bench training with a PL club and the "best GK coach in the UK" (hanging a lot on Nixon for that one :D)

It's about balance. Completely agree with this. I don't buy into the idea that we have a "first 11" and that anyone not in the preferred first team is therefore discarded. I want those players you list to be rewarded with long term deals and be part of the 15-16 players we have that play regularly. They should all have at least 25 PL appearances each next season, if not much more.

But along with that there is still space for 4-6 of the "£15m players" to flesh out a premier league ready squad. Then it's all fair game during pre-season in terms of our existing players and the new ones to perform in training and the first few matches to see who becomes the regular starters.

I then also think we will use our position as a premier league club to further bring in the "next" Mayenda's and Mundle's and Rigg's. More succession planning in accessing players we might not have been able to as a championship club.
100% this

WHERE’S THE SIGNINGS? KYRIL & SPEAKMAN OUT!

But seriously, hoping for a busy couple of weeks from us!

The lad behind that account had a SAFC page and his anti-KLD and anti-Speakman 'opinions' just got him a load of hate, so he moved onto his next grift which is Rangers. Pretty sure he made some offensive comments as well but don't quote me on that. Check out his YouTube page, bloke is a dick.
So the Youtube the lad had was 'The Exiled Mackem', the channel has been deleted but he was on an SAFC Fan TV video

Now if you look at his Rangers YouTube, Glasgow Rangers Nation, you can see that it's the same bloke

Absolute grifter.

I'd prefer us to spend 20 million on a new keeper and I'd be happy with Patto as No 2.
I really rate him but if he had moments in the championship how many more will he have in the PL
At the least we need genuine competition. He can do it, look at Wembley, but he also has a lack of focus at times. It’s a high quality league and you get punished for lapses.

We already have a young potential upcoming keeper in Young

I wouldn't be against us picking up a free agent older experienced keeper to compete with Moore for the bench spot, this is the Premiership so it would be worth a reasonable outlay on wages to bring in a Richard Wright/Scott Carson type to give us extra cover just incase something goes wrong. I think Blondy is here for the training pool and Matty Young is still a little bit away from first team ready and should be loaned out. Patto should be our number one unless we're somehow able to sign a world class keeper.

aye, I called him out earlier on twitter, he's also now pandering to mags and calling us ****e and smaller than the mags etc, strange weird bloke

42 players featured in a matchday squad last season. Some of them have already moved on but that's still a huge number.

Really need to be moving some on fairly soon. Rusyn, Hemir, Poveda, Ba, Aouchiche, Ekwah, Matete, Pembele and Anderson need to be moved on, hopefully that gives us a little bit of cash to play with also.

Then I look at players like Browne and Roberts. Some may disagree but they aren't young talents developing, they are older players who in my opinion aren't good enough for the PL. If Moore is fine with being 3rd choice i'd keep him around, seems good in the dressing room.

Then you have players who need minutes but probably aren't up to the level at the moment. Aleksic, H.Jones, Triantis, Hjelde, Young and a lot of other u21s. Seelt and Abdullahi are interesting cases, clearly talented but in my opinion they'd be better off playing 2000+ minutes in a decent league than they would be staying here, unless they impress in pre season of course.

That's 19 players i've named there, plus losing Jobe and Watson and the loans of Mepham and Samed ending which takes it to 23. 5 incomings won't be enough, even if they are all elite. You get a matchday squad of 20, there's room for at least 8 signings.

Perfectly put.

It can be a bit demoralising as a supporter to be told you need 10 new players minimum. Or you need to buy £15m pound players. None of our existing talent has been premier league tested. I suspect quite a few will flourish.

I keep banging this drum. Football is a team game. You need a team. Teams take time to build. Character, desire, commitment are all things you need to be part of a team. We have arguably the most effective team in the last 30 odd years. It is miraculous what has happened in our academy and in our recruitment. I shudder at the thought of bringing in a load of new players on bigger money than those who have been part of this team.

First and foremost, lets reward the existing team with serious contracts and tell them they will be the core of our side next year. They have earned that. Patto, Hume, Ballard, Cirkin, Neil, Rigg, Mundle, Mayenda. Give them all proper deals, they are our future. Then we can sprinkle 4 or 5 players in and around them.

Football has long since lost any soul. Maybe we can show there is more to the modern game than signing so called oven ready players. I am, and always will be, much happier to see Rigg in our colours than anyone we might buy from the continent.
Totally agree mate, and really think our fans need to look at the previous transfer windows, especially the ones where panic set in. We have consistently moved on one or two higher profile players and then brought in 2 or 3 replacements. We have also recruited players who have been given time to settle into the country and the team and we have also developed young players extremely well.
Players are phased in well and I am expecting to see players like Abdullahi and Harrison Jones play a bit more this season and I am really looking forward to seeing if Jenson Seelt and Aleksic step up.
A lot of people in the media talk about the potential in our squad which is true but I think you hit the nail on the head when you said we are a team and all in it together. That is what we need (all you need to do is look at teams like Man Utd to see how damaging it can be when you do not have this) all together no matter what club, players and fans TIL THE END.
