I wouldn't sign 1 player from the Championship personally. Even the good ones will cost more than a very good player in a foreign league.
Last thing we want to do.
We need players who can play now and also help the growth of this beautiful group of young lads.
It’s actually why I quite like Barkley as a shout, he made the switch too early and probably cost him a far better career, he’s rebuilt and he’d be a great voice for the young lads with that story to tell.

I’m all for Barkley like. So much experience and done well in a shocking Luton side - 5 goals and 4 assists in 32 league games.
I just think he’s the right type. He made his mistakes and came back up.

For me it is about getting maximum from our money. I would sooner 5 or 6 players in the £20-£25m bracket, than dropping down to say £10m pound players. Can prop up with a couple of loans.
I know folk point to Brighton as getting great players on the cheap. I just dont think we have that expertise or network yet. Plus they can take a chance on some that may not work. I think we have to be really accurate with our spending this season and take players either with Premier League experience, or top 5 league experience.
Brighton actually don’t get them that cheap either, they generally buy ‘part made’ and pay a fair chunk for them.
We need 3 years in the top league to be able to do that, we can’t sign for 2 years time.
Brentford actually a better yardstick for now.

Thing is, other than the odd one, most of our signings have not been leaked. Let’s be honest. Who knew we were signing Ballard? Cirkin? And plenty of others.

Think Ballard is the closest we have had to a reactionary signing. We dived in at death and nicked him.
Harder to sneak up on PL quality targets though, fierce competition and their agents want it leaked.
Mayenda is one of the biggest priorities for me. Need to get him tied down. What a player and I think he’s on the road to being the perfect striker for the PL

I think we'd have a numbers problem just signing 5 players. Even RLB and his hesitance for rotation still used 36 players in all comps this season and another 6 featured on the bench without coming on.
You're absolutely right about quality over quantity but I think 10 quality signings is what we need, I don't think that would be overkill.
Cirkin was linked for a while but we got nowhere near as much coverage when in League One.

Just depends how active you are on social media I suppose because pretty much every signing we've made in recent years has been linked at least one day in advance.
