In my fantasy "who I'd sign from the championship" earlier I forgot the 3 relegated sides.

With that in mind I'd probably also look to maybe sign Aaron Ramsdale to be our number 1, Wout Faes for CB and maybe Wilf N'Didi for DM

This makes me think of 6ft 2in striker Elias Sorensen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elias_Sørensen).

2023-24, Esbjerg, Danish 2nd division, 32 games and 27 goals.

Signs for Portsmouth in August 2024 and manages 13 appearances and 1 goal before being sold for a loss to a Norwegian club in the winter window.

Not saying players can't come from there and succeed but this example is food for thought.
Was the third division of Denmark, but yeah definitely risk

Would try and stay clear of Championship signings if we went up personally. Don't think it's good value and they rarely seem to work. It's fine if you are an established PL club, like Palace signing Wharton/Eze/Olise, because they are then surrounded by quality players and they can develop slowly to the level. We'd be adding Championship players to a Championship squad.

Hamer is good but I wouldn't want him if we went up. He'd cost £15m at least, you can get a high level Ligue 1 or Bundesliga player for that.

Been trying to think about what transfer strategies have worked for teams that survived that first season in recent years, definitely isn't championship players.

Brentford kept almost the same XI so that's a slight anomaly, forest a lot of old premier league pros and some French/German signings that were alright.

Loads of different strategies have worked but the recent trend of exclusively championship players I can't remember working once

Completely agree you can get much better value players on paper from other leagues but there's the risk premium. Obviously every transfer carries risk but signing players you've watched play in the league does have an associated value to it.

N’Didi has a £9million relegation release clause…

Yeh to be clear I wasn't saying we should be signing all those players, or just those players. Purely saying they're the ones I'd happily take. I'd want it supplemented with well scouted players from abroad.

Need to be ruthless rather than sentimental too.

But I will say we need to keep a good core of the squad in the starting XI so we can keep that team spirit and fight with the players that actually worked hard to get us here.

From the starting XI currently, I see Patto, Hume, Ballard, Mepham (if we sign him), Cirkin, Jobe (if he stays), Neil, Enzo, Mundle, Isidor/Mayenda all being starting XI regulars

That said, we need to sign some PL experience and also a higher calibre of young talent who are more likely to do well from the get go. Some of our current XI should become the new depth on the bench

You've named literally an entire starting 11... sorry but if we're planning on regularly starting all eleven players from a team which couldn't even make the top 3 in the Championship, we would get battered week in week out in the Prem.

I do think all of them are "good enough", just, but they are all very much "bottom tier" players. So, three or four of them may be fine, but we would need to improve the other 7 or 8 positions.

My choices as "regular starters" if we get to the Prem would be only Jobe and Enzo. Maybe Neil, Mundle, Mayenda at a push, depending on development. Everyone else you've named should be bench options at best, imo.

Most of our players are getting premier league clubs looking at them and potentially offers, of course most will start

Please do not sign from the championship.

the value is abroad. Look at the price we get le fee for

if our scouts do their job properly and get a good look in Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, France. Etc we will get better calibre hidden players for much cheaper

compare Jack Clarke price to le fee price for example

this is where promoted teams fail. Most promoted teams look in England for their signings ready for the championship if anything. Don’t do it

Not in one team though cam. They’re all prem ready and will fit in an established prem team but we go up and start them all together we struggle
I can't see this club going up and dropping the likes of Hume, Cirkin, Ballard etc from the get go mind, still young plyers with a high potential that will no doubt improve by the time the season starts. We wills ign quality i'm sure but they aren't going to throw the likes of those away to the sideline and not give them a chance

Again, not saying sign all players from the Championship. But I think if you can get the right deal for a player like Hamer who has already delivered in the premiership, its worth paying a slight premium versus players we've scouted from abroad who might work.

Because to date, I'd say probably half of our signings from abroad from this recruitment team have failed. Pembele, Rusyn, Ba, Aouchiche, Xhemajli, Bennette, Hemir, Aleksic (so far), Samed.

There's value abroad but there's also challenges settling, some won't work.

Aye don't worry I know you weren't, there definitely is value in the championship as well as abroad.

One of the reasons promoted clubs sign young British players is because they often retain their resale value and it's easy to find another buyer, for example Jack Clarke has done very little for Ipswich this season but they could quite easily make their money back on him this summer if they needed to raise funds quickly.

Really be surprised if we sign more than 5 players for in and around the first team if we go up. Been building a squad over several years now, not just first team. Not going to throw that out the window and block progression for the younger players. We all know Speakman has a plan and I suspect some will not be happy come the end of the window.
