The academy staff may well feel cheated. I suspect though they also feel pride. They have developed a player who has been chased by a top end premier league club for some time, a club well regarded for identifying talent. They should also feel satisfied at the £10m the club have just banked. In times like this academy coaches should receive a bonus imo. A job very well done. We are very lucky to have them and it may not be too long before other clubs are looking at some of them.I’ve seen lots of posts, over the last few seasons, from people who’ve kept an eye on Watson and actually been to games. They’ve eagerly anticipated the time when he’d be playing in the first team. As he’s a local lad there’s obviously a great deal of pride …
… I can totally understand why some are disappointed and feel let down.
Graeme Murty, and the U21 staff, must be feeling cheated and angry I’d imagine.
Not sure it's blind loyalty, if he was ready to go there and push for or even be starting 11 then fair enough. But he probably isn't even going to make the bench yet! So he has went when he had plenty of developing he could be doing here. I have no problem with players improving here and outgrowing us and moving on to test themselves at next level, Clarke did it Jobe likely will in the summer but to leave when you are probably going to go straight out on loan because you haven't even made more than a few appearance for the club. Na not the same and doesn't sit right with me!

In the eyes of PSR/FFP the sale is 100% pure profit as he's an academy product.Seen as Watson is our first significant academy sale, will the club treat the money slightly differently to other departures?
For example, The Clarke and Stewart money gets split into 50% transfer kitty and the rest goes into other stuff like data, academy, contracts etc. Will they use this to put more money into the academy structure, seen as hes an academy product?
Not sure if I've worded that correctly to be honest![]()
I trust these guys to use it sensibly to develop the club. I hope we don’t get the Where’s the Watson money gone quotes in a few weeks time.Seen as Watson is our first significant academy sale, will the club treat the money slightly differently to other departures?

Hope not. Nothing will be gained by doing so. If it comes to it, and he goes through one on one with the keeper at Wembley in the last min, I want him full of confidence and scoring.Yep. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get some stick.
Many on here think Tommy will be loaned out to a Championship Club next season.
Wouldn’t it be something if Brighton loaned him to us for the season.
No hard feelings towards Watson at all, I suppose he's someone who's ambitious and pragmatic and let's face it Brighton are a much better team than we are with far better prospects for his career in the near future.
It's nice when players who've been at the club a while show blind loyalty but you can't expect it.

Pretty much thiswouldn't want him on a loan
a team chasing promotion can’t be starting him religiously which would be the aim of the loan

The club have earned my confidence over the last few years so let’s trust them to put it to good use.
