I thought I’d give a bit of more of a ‘detailed’ write up on what I think of Diarra.

i 100% see him slotting into the Rigg role with the ability to cover the jobe role if needed if he can work on a couple things

He plays incredibly well on the turn and in transition. Has a great burst of pace, shields the ball well, has good close control and can pick out a pass. He probably could’ve had more than 5 assists last year if his teammates weren’t wasteful

his energy is superb, his defensive side needs work, he can look a bit weak in the tackle sometimes but it’s not for a lack of effort. It can likely be trained into him because he has the desire to work hard and win the ball.

I mentioned last night, interesting enough for the Rigg role last season his heat map shows him operating in the half spaces on the right, exactly where we would deploy Rigg to create chances, so the transition into the system should be easy.

ultimately he’s a massive hard working athlete with creative tendencies and the ability to hurt teams on the break and get Sunderland up the pitch.

At 21 years old this is a tremendous signing and the model advancing

Need to retain our top talent, I'm buzzing to see how Rigg Neil etc play with the new lads - i think they'll really up their games and won't be easy to shift from the team
I’ve got my doubts about Neil but we’ll see. Massive season for him

Spot on, we aren't going to sign a perfect player this window but the upside in Diarra is frightening. He has a lot of the unteachable qualities, defensively he can be taught how to use his body to win tackles and what positions to pick up out of possession to block passing lanes and cover the dangerous areas (this is the area Jobe and Neil massively improved last season)

diarra has a mix of amazing potential and the ability to walk into the team

that’s what we need now across 6 positions or so

Nice post mate, good take on it that.

It's the speed and unruffled way it's all been done that's staggered me. Even if we hadn't went up, this lot would have held their course, and probably stepped up another notch or two.

There's a long list of teams in the Championship that have been away from the top level for years and look nowhere near getting back, always having yet another reset. Most obviously Sheff Wed for 25 years or so and heading in the other direction.

Why they KLD did it I don't know. But pick this club up he did, and he and KS have shown any other club a text book approach on how to pursue the goal, without spending the earth.
When you think about it, it’s a simple model. Sign young talent who have limited senior experience, develop them, then either sell on for profit or the team naturally improves.

The reason teams don’t do it, is they won’t take the risk of immediate success being halted. That’s where speakman especially has done incredible because other than 23/24 the onfield side has consistently improved.

We had huge advantages with the standard of the academy and training facilities that most clubs don’t have. But we also have a demanding fan base which would make it hard to stay the course with such a model. That’s what makes KLD tenure here so far, absolutely outstanding.

Similar mate, i think his upside is huge - i could see him turning into a 70 million player!!

I agree with @JimHeron92 yesterday that his defensive work is the area he really needs to improve on but love his ability in possession and the way he covers the ground. We need players that can get about the pitch and this lad does that, love watching him with the ball at his feet - a proper player imo

Really excited by this signing

No worries mate, Guendouzi will deal with that :emoticon-0148-yes:

In fairness Guendouzi isn't some defensive beast, he's a big lad though and winds people up constantly.
