sorry mate that Danns comparison is utterly ridiculous :D

anyone who thinks we are only “in” for players we’ve been linked with loosely in the media really hasn’t been paying attention. Of course leaks are more likely now but that doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed.

be patient!!!
See this is my issue I have full faith in speakman and co to make quality signings that give us a shot at staying up I’m just inpatient

I have total faith that we'll be targeting the right players and everyone will get a chance whether I've heard of them or not.

Given the start to the season we have though, urgency needs to be factored in by Speakman now as well imo. Obviously I'm not talking about signing 10 players now, that would be ridiculous, but a pre-season with 3/4 of our new signings in place could reap huge rewards.

A lot of us will be impatient this summer. It's a combination of the excitement building and knowing that start to the season is a unique opportunity that can't be missed.

Almost the perfect example of why the idea that a promoted club needs to sign a few "premier league players with experience" is a non starter really. You could get rid of way more than £100m in no time, then the wages, then that agent's kilos of flesh. And this particular guy is not a game changer either.

We'll sign players at a good level I'm sure, but they won't be this type of signing. KS has already more or less said this, when he was talking about transfers a week or so ago, referring to different types of experience. I agree with him.

We were too young to go up, too inexperienced, no players with PL time, a novice manager, a naive "model" and an immature owner. I heard all of this stuff from the talking heads at different times. We are better off having a go at it our own way. It's our best bet.

I completely agree with this, though I'm not against experience on our own terms. The very same people who said we couldn't go up with what we have will now be saying "you can get away with it in the Championship but the Premier League is a different story."

The reality is that we cannot ever compete with about 12 clubs in this league in terms of income. That means we can't ever compete in terms of wages. So we either follow the same path as others and buy our way to Premier League mediocrity where you're one bad season away from ruin... Or we build around an excellent academy system and young promising players who come to us for games rather than money.

Route A is more likely to keep us up this season. Route B is the only way for Sunderland to ever overachieve without being state owned.

It's lazy in my opinion and typical of how 'parachute clubs' operate.

I agree with you, I'm enjoying how our club operates and don't want to see it compromised ...

... if it is we just become another club like all the rest.

I’m not saying we aren’t going to sign anyone. My point is we always seem to say “oh we keep things quiet” but we used that excuse all last Jan when RLB said he wanted a versatile forward etc and we ended up with Danns on the final day. I just think sometimes we are a bit slow with our business.

This isn’t me saying we aren’t going to do anything it was just an observation

This is what I mean. This is what I’m trying to get across

wouldn’t say we’re necessarily slow with our business, more methodical.

if we still haven’t signed anyone in 2 weeks I might readdress that :D

and we do keep things quiet. That isn’t an “excuse”. It’s a fact. To use your Danns example, he wasn’t even linked to us until lunchtime of deadline day himself.

I think I’m still scarred by us not managing to sign a striker who could contribute on day one for multiple windows until we got Isidor so I feel like we might just miss out on the business we want to do.

I just would like to see us give ourselves the best chance we’ve got and have most of our business done ready for the season start.

obviously every game is hard but I do feel our opening games could be a real head start for us

I get it. I also think our process, methods and approach shouldn’t change because of the fixture list. We should be ready for game 1 no matter who it’s against.

but it’s natural for fans to see the list and suddenly want urgency, I get it
