Will be sorely missed in the middle of the park hopefully 30+ add ons, and I hope our replacements targets are being green lit as we speak
I'm sure this will have come as no surprise to KS and his team.....they'll have been alerted to this long since,so I would expect replacement will be already way down the line.
Good luck to Jobe, hope he smashes it! Be funny if we screwed brum over. 5mill up front 30mill when he plays 1 game 20% sell on
10 goals and 4 assists in 30 PL appearances last season (a lot of those off the bench). I’d be absolutely staggered if Brighton let him go.
Yeah this. I really like jobe, and he’s done well by us with the profit. But he only really give us one good season, then left. Not knocking a move to Dortmund obviously, a mega club and trying not to sound bitter with this because im really not, just disappointed he hasn’t given us one more year. Wish him will, can’t say I will follow him at Dortmund and I’ll probably remember him in the same light as I did an Amad or a Clarke. Think he will reach the top though.
Aye. The only sour taste in my mouth has been that he's been touring these German clubs since the spring apparently. Whilst we were in our bad run of form he was popping over to Dormund and Frankfurt for tours of stadiums and training grounds. He almost certainly did it with our blessing so its not necessarily a criticism of him. And in one hand you can appreciate the decisiveness in the way they're managing his career. But I do genuinely think he's moving a year early. Both for him career-wise and for us fee-wise.
I keep seeing Sunderland fan sites saying he's left Brighton on a free. He hasn't as far as I can tell. He has one year left on his contract and was their top scorer last season.
Agree with all that mate. I’ll admit I’m naive and do get taken in with all this ‘I love the club’ etc and I do think he has a big affinity to us now but there’s just something about kissing the badge, ‘best ****ing club in the world’ and then moves when we possibly need him, a little bit sour just for me but I do get the move and decision. I also appreciate he could of went last summer. Feel like I’m being overly harsh here but it’s just my initial feelings. Really happy with the work the club has done with him though.
Welbeck on a 2 year deal would be magic. No way they release him early after a smashing season though. Another loan we accidentally fell in love with.
I think there was a thing online of out of contract players and he was on it - think that's then been picked up by fan sites and it's come from there
I completely agree. There's also an element of me feeling a little bit aggrieved that he's chickening out of a relegation battle. Albeit I understand Dortmund and champions league football are a massive pull. Anyway he's only famous because of his brother and we've absolutely rinsed Dortmund.
Wish Jobe nothing but the best. It was obvious from the moment he signed that we were just one stepping stone in a grand plan that had already been laid out for his career. Despite that, he’s played with the passion and commitment of someone who’d grown up as a Sunderland fan. It’s been absolutely brilliant to watch him develop and I hope he goes on to play at the very top of the game for the rest of his career. I actually really like the idea of him and Jude in the same midfield for England one day. I think their skillsets would compliment each other nicely as part of a three.
The timimg of it is interesting. I do think it's a year early for him career-wise.....he's had a good season with us,but I'm not sure he's Bundesliga ready just yet...another season with us wouldn't have hurt. However, fee-wise,I think we've gone for the secure option. Yes,he could have upped his fee with stellar performances for us in the PL,but, what if he struggles, gets injured and loses a bit of his appeal. Sometimes the bird in the hand....
All parties win with Jobe's stay here. He's improved massively, helped the club improve massively and we get a load of money. We've dragged our feet just enough to get a decent fee from Dortmund but not put off future players by being dicks about the move.
