I thought Ten Haag saying Maguire is Captain was a mistake but looks like they are in for Martinez and no way Maguire starts over Martinez and Varane so Ten Haag may just have been avoiding upsetting a player.
It was good man management. What's he supposed to say, Maguire is **** so no way is he captain?

Possibly yes but you also need someone to take over as Captain and players have to accept that a new manager may have new ideas. If he's moving him to the side quietly then good man management, if he's keeping him as Captain then not so good.
I’ve always wondered if captain really means anything to the players. They talk to the ref, do the coin toss, do more media stuff off the pitch etc, but do top level pro players really give a **** who is the captain and look up to him etc? Do they **** imo
