Friendlies are definitely just for fitness - but I’d argue that totally writing off the results when they’re awful is foolish - obviously dependant on who’s starting, how far the teams are into their pre-season, how many subs are made etc.

Remember getting walloped 5-0 off Celtic before the awful championship season and we could all see just how bad we were..

Was 6-0 I think, and could have been 34 ha.

I seem to remember the mags getting humped 6-0 off Orient pre-season but it did them no harm.

"Think he got the job because he was a glamour name and the fans were waving around banners about him.

Too much wrong at Everton right now. Too much money splashed around, wild expectations, managers getting very little time, players bought on name instead of need.

If Peter Kenyon and his very wealthy friends really are interested, they have picked a challenging club to test themselves."

could not direct quote...

that is a path we know only too well, maybe we were one of the more extreme cases but we are not alone in dropping the leagues and others will follow...spending money on reputation rather than 'will they fit the style of play' is probably the biggest mistake that can be made these days, purchases have to be based on getting full value out of the player, not on someone who might put a few backsides on seats for a wee while.
