Don’t forget Ballard (and long term Huggins) Three of our best out injured. We have 3 games until 17th September and then a 2 week break until 1st October. I would reckon that’s when Ross and Dennis will be back (just a guess) Then there’s 10 games in about 5 weeks before a longer world cup break taking us into December when I suspect all 3 will be back, although Huggins will probably not feature until next year. *just heard Tuchel has been sacked by Chelsea. Well, they can keep their grubby hands of Mowbray, he’s ours.
@BBCnewcastle BBC Radio Newcastle understands Ross Stewart and Dennis Cirkin both have Grade Three tears. Stewart out for at least 4-8 weeks but realistically probably 12. Crikin will be out until new year. #BBCFootball #TotalSport #SAFC @Tweed_Barnesy Do we believe Barnsey. This for me would be a right mood killer if it is the case.
Cirkins injury looked much worse than Stewarts. I hope it's good news on both when the club issue a statement.
Now nobody could expect Speakman and co to anticipate that injuries could happen to key 1st teamers, or? Its okay cos we have good ready-made replacements to step in, from a brilliant transfer window.
Just a question for those saying we should have bought a ready made replacement? Bearing in mind who LND is clearly the No1 striker, Simms was brought in as his back up We then 'stumbled' on 2 up top working for a few games but its always been obvious it wasn't the long term plan. Who would have joined to probably not see any minutes at all until an injury came? I can't understand posts on various sites panicking that that's the season over etc, we have and can change formation and as much as LND is a huge loss, we have the players to overcome it
Agree with this but would like to add one thing, we could not sign a ready made replacement for Stewart imo. I don't think there are many strikers who do the off the ball work he does. So yeah we could have signed another striker and probably should have but we would still be changing it to one up top imo.
I do think we needed a third striker when playing two and once again we took a gamble. We needed to be able to change to a two in matches and with one injured you can’t. It’s as simple as that. There’s been a lot of good done and we have sufficient attacking players but one short on central strikers unless the reserve lad is one they think can step up.
