If reports are correct that he wants to come here and we want him here, then wages must have been the issue. Maybe Everton are offering an extension to eventually sell him, but by loaning him, we pay a percentage of his wages again, so this deal might be more agreeable to us.

Given his supposed desire to come here, the only reasons why Everton would want to loan him to another club would be either to make sure Simms gets more game time or because they've spat their dummy out because they couldn't agree a deal with us to buy him now.

re: broadhead...sounds like a plan, gives him the chance to prove the injuries were not going to be a problem, gets him game time he will not get with them to prove he can do it at (supposedly) a higher level than last season.

i get the feeling the injuries were a major stumbling block for any club wanting to sign him or even showing an interest regardless of any wage/personal demands.

Loan makes more sense than permanent imo.

He has injury struggles despite his talent and ability, it seems Everton are committed to getting a good fee for him and allegedly hes on decent wages. This way we get another season out of the lad without splashing out a fee and wages for a lad who will miss games.
If indeed it is us they loan him to

Loaning him to us makes little sense for Everton. If they're offering him a contract its because they want to cash in for more money than we are willing to pay now, later.

Seems they are gambling on him having an injury free year and playing 30+ games. Which they know probably won't happen here as I'd imagine Stewart and Simms would be ahead of him.

If the lad signs a new contract with Everton then it is purely money motivated by him. They have shown in pre-season they aren't even interested in looking him, for footballing reasons he is best to move on.

It might be the hold up has been Everton not wanting to sell for a reduced fee due to the 1 year left on his contract or maybe it is we wouldn't match his Everton wages.

As much as I'd like to see him back this could be the end of it for us!
