Quality that. Humble. Watched his interview and overall he seems a really down to earth lad who wants to get on. Nice to bring such characters in.
Seemed like he doesn't want any attention and just wants to get down to business. Exactly the right type of character, didn't seem phased by the move 'up north' at all. I like this lad and he hasn't kicked a ball yet. What price is he first goal on Sat? :1980_boogie_down:

In theory if he starts looking brilliant, Spurs could resign him for £6m in a year then loan him out again or sell him immediately for more. But that only really works in theory. He seems a switched on lad so I imagine if things are going well here, he only goes back to them if it’s to become first choice.

remember the buyback clause only forces us to accept an offer - it doesn’t force him to.

clearly if they were offering him first team football on the champions league etc we can’t complain. But if he gets that good then we have won out of this anyway.

So win win

Arriving from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the highly-rated left-back has penned a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

The 19-year-old becomes SAFC’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following Alex Pritchard, Corry Evans and Callum Doyle to Wearside.

Born in Ireland, Cirkin moved to London at the age of three and he quickly rose through the ranks at Tottenham before being named in the Londoners’ senior squad for the first time aged 17.

Described as a player with ‘a lot of quality’ by former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, the left-back will be eligible to make his Sunderland debut on Saturday when the Lads travel to MK Dons.

After joining SAFC, Cirkin said: “I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I got interest from Sunderland, it was a no-brainer – the fans, the stadium, the history – and I just thought the club was perfect for me. I feel like the Head Coach has a very good track record with young players and I feel like this is a place that I can progress and develop in my career.”

Lee Johnson added: “To get a player of Dennis’ quality at 19 speaks wonders in terms of what we’re trying to do because he is a top talent and he’s very highly regarded within the game. We have been really happy with the signings we have made so far and we will bank this one, but we will continue our work quietly and efficiently to try and get a couple more over the line.”

Excellent, he's Irish, theres that Emerald Isle luck shining upon us again.
I've not felt this good about us in fookin years :)

Fantastic signing - quality over quantity. Let's hope people give him time to find his feet - imagine what him and Doyle will be like once they have settled in to the team!!
They have been criticised by a few but I think it shows what an incredible job the recruitment team have done by bringing these 2 in, I maybe wrong but I never heard any other team linked with either of them.
For the recruitment team to be able to bring them in when no one else even realised they were available shows how good of a job they are doing

We now have a club which has a plan and the confidence to stick to it. The club seem to want to nay sign players who will be better than those we have, with the potential to develop into even better players.

we are at a key stage in the plan, we have obviously sold the club and the set up to both players and to Man City. If we do well other players will follow and top clubs will send us their best young talent on loan.

Great business and serious investment, really does put a lot of whoppers over the road to bed.
The word investment makes me happy. Exactly the signing type I’ve been hoping for since relegation. The best of our under 21’s , good premier loans and invest money in those young and talented. Can’t be that complicated but Laurel and Hardy got the whole thing back to front and upside down.

How does the buy back work? In theory could they buy him back anytime they want in the 3 years?

We have to accept any offer of £6m from them in the next 3 years, yeh. Assuming the figure is £6m.

They can do that at any time, but obviously his registration can only change between us during a transfer window. So in reality it could only happen during a transfer window.

If they offer it, we accept, he can then still them to get stuffed if he wants.

So… Dennis or Marcus Maddison? I’ve just spent the evening watching him (45 minutes anyway!) playing for Spalding Utd vs Posh kids (U/23?)… he’s going cheap (£1k per month + 1g class A’s according to a bloke next to me!)…
He was playing against kids and got shown up… the fact the No 9 was a fat curnt probably didn’t help…
We look like we dodged a bullet…
So…KLD listen to the recruiting team not the likes of us on forums like this!!

Yeah I said before on here that on the 28th July I said there were 2 big bids in for 2 different players close to 1m each. Was on the 1.3m thread on the RTG. Got laughed at. Well, this would appear to be 1 of them done. Let's hope for the other.

Seems like if the RB is Key or Gabriel we have a bit of a wait on our hands for either. I expect RB to either come out of the blue or go into final week.

got a sneaky feeling CB will be next.

Can you say a position for the other bid or not? I still think a right back, centre half or two if/when Wright goes, and a forward!
