Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Dennis Cirkin for an undisclosed fee.

Arriving from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the highly-rated left-back has penned a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

The 19-year-old becomes SAFC’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following Alex Pritchard, Corry Evans and Callum Doyle to Wearside.

Born in Ireland, Cirkin moved to London at the age of three and he quickly rose through the ranks at Tottenham before being named in the Londoners’ senior squad for the first time aged 17.

Described as a player with ‘a lot of quality’ by former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, the left-back will be eligible to make his Sunderland debut on Saturday when the Lads travel to MK Dons.

After joining SAFC, Cirkin said: “I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I got interest from Sunderland, it was a no-brainer – the fans, the stadium, the history – and I just thought the club was perfect for me. I feel like the Head Coach has a very good track record with young players and I feel like this is a place that I can progress and develop in my career.”

Lee Johnson added: “To get a player of Dennis’ quality at 19 speaks wonders in terms of what we’re trying to do because he is a top talent and he’s very highly regarded within the game. We have been really happy with the signings we have made so far and we will bank this one, but we will continue our work quietly and efficiently to try and get a couple more over the line.”

Everything suggests that is a cracking signing. Well done to the recruitment team for getting it done.

Yes mate, and they have bought off Spurs who can make it very difficult to buy from them.

Is there a buy back or a sell on fee clause? Not bothered to be honest just delighted the deal is done.

Fantastic signing. Welcome to Sunderland Dennis.

Doyle, Evans, Pritchard, Cirkin and we have had to wait a week or two....versus Power, McFazdean, Wyke, Jones and a bunch of other league one plodders. So can the negative ***** please now fork orf.

If we get just one more quality signing through the door I would be ecstatic.

If we can nab a poacher (striker), a CB (Sanderson would be mint - Imagine him and Doyle), and a RB I think we have a comfortable championship squad.

Also we can hoe that the oil price crashes and that Man City need to sell Doyle to stay afloat. Just saying :emoticon-0169-dance

Now it’s actually happened, I still can’t get my head around this being permanent and not a loan.

with all due respect to all the others, feels like our first signing since we have been in league one that has been intended as a long term signing that can have immediate impact, rather than just somebody to get us out of league one
