Not like he’s even in the final year of his contract, or kicking off. Purely just a cash grab from the owners.

Sports republic are clowns man.
But he may have kicked off had we blocked his move to Leverkusen. Particularly if we turned down 20mill.

Think you might be getting Jacob mixed up with Dan Sheldon? He was the one that wrote about our 60th minute time out etc. I like Jacob - always good on the Total Saints Podcast
I think I must be. Wow they blended together. Did they both only have one season might that be why. I stand corrected. Thanks for correcting me. He still seemed to only write it as if it was an opinion rather than insight. He might well be right but I also don’t think he had board contacts - and most have changed now anyway

Because of the financial rules in the Championship, I'm guessing it's more a case of can't rather than won't. Owners are only allowed to cover a relatively small amount of losses, and transfers are generally structured such that we'll be paying for a sizable percentage of last year's transfers this year.
I don’t think this is true because aren’t the rules spread out over a three year period? Or is that just the PL? So you can completely fail to comply for one year but then will have to really work to align in the following two

We didn’t particularly comply last year. So there has to be a balance

I agree if the window ended today it will have been a bad one. But there is a week left and Martin has said all along that there will be departures, but that they'll be replaced.

Got to wait until the end of the window before casting judgement really. If the club really think Fraser is good enough to replace Tella then that is a piss take. Whereas if we go and bring in a top quality replacement it isn't so bad.

Although fwiw i think the tella deal is bad either way. Its pretty tough to find a winger that'll get you 17 goals for less than £20m, so not sire how they expect to replcae him.
That could get us 17 goals. He’s done it once for another club in another system. Which is better than most and also any potential replacement - granted. But nothing is a sure thing

The rules are spread over three years, but there is a 15m maximum loss over three years that can be covered by ownership.

Don’t think so. Doesn’t seem the type. But I guess we won’t know as we never try and keep any of our best players anyway
Respectfully disagree. I think he would have been very unhappy if we’d blocked a move that takes him to a club playing in Europe. He might not have actively and outwardly kicked off. But he wouldn’t have had the same enthusiasm and spark. The thing lots on here are saying they like about him

Different leagues don’t count for the premier league. Not sure about the championship. So there are teams that have breached championship rules and got away with it due to promotion - wolves for example. I can only assume it doesn’t work the same the other way around

Regardless - if these rules are as strict as people are assuming then surely Leeds are already screwed? And like I suggest - simply have to gamble on promotion this time. Big losses, largest single spend on a player , relatively little fees incoming …

Reactions: Floating Bridge
I think people are slightly overestimating Tella here. Sure, he's had one great season with Burnley (but even they didn't think he was worth more than £10m). Yes, on the goalscoring front he's popped in a couple of good ones for us so far this season. But in all honesty, other than the two goals (I know, I know), he hasn't looked all that great to me in those games - a weird reluctance to ever take on his man, and some pretty poor decision making. SAA and Edozie have taken their opponents on far more regularly, as will Sulemana (presuming/hoping he stays).

As I've already said, I would have preferred him not to have gone, but I get it from all sides, and I just don't see it as some kind of great disaster for us, as there's plenty of adequate cover at this level. I might be wrong, of course, but I can't see the doom in this one. Just a bit of a shame, that's all.

Tella’s been removed from the players on the website by the way, but not seen an actual official announcement.

Yeah, not sure why, but I don't feel crushed by this one. Perhaps as we have the decent youngsters coming in, and my limited memories of Fraser are that he was threat in the Prem. I do feel reassured by Martin I guess, as he's been straight about as much as he possibly can be, and the football is....well, good! Just so refreshing after the clusterfuck of last season.

The logic that the vocally unhappy people are using, which I don’t disagree with, is think on if we had signed or were trying to sign someone with his numbers. We’d all be over the moon. And we already had him. That’s where I think the reaction from some is coming

Indeed a signing with his numbers might be the only one that would meet the criteria of no one moaning about it. But it’s gone the other way

Add in the assumption that Fraser is his replacement which may well be true and that makes the unhappy noises grow louder. There is still a chance that Sulemana is is his “replacement” in terms of starting spot in the match day squad. It’s gone quiet on a departure for him. And if we applied the same logic as above of pretending he wasn’t already our player and pitched it as Sulemana for Tella (say we’d never signed him in Jan and we’re signing him now as Tella’s replacement) - would the reaction be different ?

Granted he could still go too. Which is why these discussions are so tricky

I wonder if Fraser having a number on the sight and Holgate not means that the former can be involved today and the latter not ?
