Tella wasn’t here. And while he was away he developed into exactly what we need - a talisman player.

Anyway; you’re right. Every player is ultimately replaceable. But he is the one attacking player that I really wanted to stay. He’s a guy that can make something happen from nowhere. He’s proven he can do the hard graft on loan at Burnley. He’s a quality player. Would have been a great story for him to smash it here this season.

I would have loved the romance of it all. But yeah football - especially at st Mary’s - is purely about profit nowadays.
Sure, agree with all of the above. But he couldn’t be ****ed to roll his sleeves up and stay (yes, he got a very good offer and I’d have likely done the same) so I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

We’ve had enough of people dragging their arses around on pity parade, thinking about other clubs. In the wise words of the very wise Rickie Lambert: Southampton is a good club to play for, especially at that level, so if they don’t wanna be at Southampton, ship them out.

Jacob Tanswell is now saying we are going for loans as we have to make up for last year’s spending. There is not a lot of money in the bank. Seems the club’s story has changed. I assume he is pretty reliable.

Not sure how "looking to the loan market to cover outgoings" means we have no money in the bank. If the goal is to be promoted, then signings like Holgate and Fraser are good for us at this level and add depth. If we start handing out 4/5 year contracts to average players again we're going to end with a bloated squad that nobody wants to buy.

Did you read his reply later where he says specifically that Solak spent too much last year?

I am saying that despite coming up on £200M of sales, Solak does actually seem to want his money back.

This was not how I viewed it at all. Tanswell has caught me by surprise.

Anyway, if Che goes the test is there. We don’t need a loan for depth there. We need big ****ing Ace card to get us back up. One tenth of our £200M outgoings or so?

And? All he did was make a factual statement. I read that tweet and that is all it is. He is theorising and then saying stuff that backs up his theory. He isn’t a saints reporter anymore and he never seemed to have particularly good insights or contacts when he was. No reason to believe he has the inside track now. Especially not on overall transfer strategy

I would guess that despite this being on the Fraser tweet he has actually jumped on us signing Holgate on loan rather than Wood for a fee. Now if it ends up being the one then he has a point. But if we bring in Wood for up to or over 10m then he is basically instantly wrong with his “having to look to the loan market”.

There is a difference between “having to use the loan market” and simply “choosing to use the loan market”. He has stuck his neck out to try and get a hot take but it seems to be based solely on bringing in two loans today and three overall. Even though all championship clubs loan players

Remember this is the guy so desperate for a scoop he wrote an article about our little tricks for everyone to read and either copy or get wise to. He’s not someone who I would trust nor do I expect does anyone at the club who knows anything

Think you might be getting Jacob mixed up with Dan Sheldon? He was the one that wrote about our 60th minute time out etc. I like Jacob - always good on the Total Saints Podcast

They maybe looking at in FFP purposes. Get us in a good position financially that if we do go up next year we can spend money. If we go spending money on championship quality this year when we already have a decent squad, we’ll be spending less money to spend next season.

Because of the financial rules in the Championship, I'm guessing it's more a case of can't rather than won't. Owners are only allowed to cover a relatively small amount of losses, and transfers are generally structured such that we'll be paying for a sizable percentage of last year's transfers this year.

Regardless of the reasons for the loans, for me it makes perfect sense to utilise the loan market to get players like Fraser and Holgate in. No long term commitment if it goes wrong but if it goes right will be good additions to the squad. Good to get some experience in there.

Tella is better than Sulemana. Mentally up for the championship.

This is a **** decision from the club.

We also don’t have a striker with adams going.

Today has been kind of like losing lallana and lambert just before the start of the last championship season. I don’t really get what there is to be positive about?

Because SR have made a wedge. All hail Sports Republic <applause>

Look at Burnley last season.

Tella, Harwood-Bellis, Maatsen & Beyer were brought in on loan and were all regulars as they walked the league.

I don't care if it's a loan or permanent deal, if they are good enough to get you promoted then bring them in.

Like I have been saying all along. For some reason, and despite all evidence to the contrary, posters here seem to think SR are some sort of benevolent gods. It's bizarre. Look how quickly some posters have decided this is OK. We've gone from Tino and Tella will tear up the championship. To well we've made great money and SR have clearly stated they aim for promotion so will definitely reinvest, to Ryan Fraser on loan is a great plan <laugh>

At least £150m on incomings and you're happy with 3 loans and a free <doh>

I agree if the window ended today it will have been a bad one. But there is a week left and Martin has said all along that there will be departures, but that they'll be replaced.

Got to wait until the end of the window before casting judgement really. If the club really think Fraser is good enough to replace Tella then that is a piss take. Whereas if we go and bring in a top quality replacement it isn't so bad.

Although fwiw i think the tella deal is bad either way. Its pretty tough to find a winger that'll get you 17 goals for less than £20m, so not sire how they expect to replcae him.

Yeah, pretty much this. Also I know some people really liked him and he has a great personality but I saw him play about 40 times for us prior to our relegation and he scored one goal.

Ran around a lot but I have to be honest I never saw him as a PL player and stunned that he’s ended up as a £20m transfer.

Will be interesting to see how he goes in the Bundesliga.
I agree- likeable, enthusiastic player but often, in my humble opinion, makes the wrong decisions in front of goal. In some respects not unlike the way AA has performed in the PL

Losing Charly and Che would be like losing Lallana and Lambert.

Here's something to be positive about; Sam Amo-Ameyaw. Our sh*t club that never does anything right, scouted him last summer, and convinced him to join us, for free. He has a ceiling higher than both Tella and Sulemana.
Yes- that young fella excites me - not only does he have great ability he looks to have a footballing brain.

Not like he’s even in the final year of his contract, or kicking off. Purely just a cash grab from the owners.

Sports republic are clowns man.
