He's kept us up, so done his job well so far, but the first few games of next season will be key. When we go to Watford away for our first game (positive thinking there regarding the first game predictor comp), we'll see if the mentality has changed from 'we just need enough points to stay up' to 'we are good enough to play some decent football and beat any team in this division'. I'd love to see us play good football and finish high up in the league, but I'd also be happy if we played awful football and won the league. I didn't complain when we were promoted from the old Division 2 under Ollie, and as much as we love Ollie, the football wasn't great.

I think we got quite lucky playing that style. A few games where we rode our luck for much of the game with clearances off the line and blocks - a couple of those games could have gone the other way. Question is, does he have the ability to change things up during a game or will it be direct style only.
Good to hear mention of promotion, I really can’t think past a tough season ahead with avoiding relegation our main goal. Probably the same for the next few seasons..

There was a massive difference between Luton and us. They had 5 strikers to choose from as a starting point. Their recruitment and scouting has been excellent

Can’t really answer that until season starts & what sort of team we will have, best wait & see before any slagging starts before a ball is kicked

That's the key point, our recruitment has been wanting in virtually every window. Some decisions have been baffling to be honest, most pointedly Warburton's last window. I must say I'm not expecting us to be anything other than aiming for 50 points...

I was pointing to the style of play rather than their recruitment record. I imagine Ainsworth might know where to go to get young, strong, fit players that would suit a direct style of play. Would you be happy enough for Rangers to play like Luton if we were winning?

Having watched Luton in the play offs and a few sky games, I would be more than happy if we could replicate their success. Even through managerial roundabouts, they maintained their ethic and slightly adopted their style. The difference between them and us was good organisation, player selection and choice, recruitment and 30 points. I hope Gareth can somehow turn us into a Luton Town story but he will have to do it losing our better players and maybe not having the options to bring anyone in. I don't blame the guy for where we are, I fear for him for where we are heading. The championship gets stronger every season and we seem to be getting weaker.

Who knows how we’ll play. We don’t even know what the squad will look like. Big holes will appear in this squad over the next couple of months.
Trouble is we don’t really know where those holes will appear, which means we don’t know who we need to bring in. It looks like key players down the spine of the team are leaving. That’s a lot to fill and a lot to get right (and it’s vital we get it right!). My confidence isn’t high with our past recruitment record, so we just have to hope GA and his close team already have some good ideas already.
Then we can go on and get to the play-offs :emoticon-0138-think

Pretty clearly we are building a team around Taylor Richards and his unequalled ability to track the ball as it goes flying over his head. Our big risk is that he gets RSI of the neck.

Agreed... but he did look so good when he first joined us and was talked about as a genuine candidate for a money-making transfer into the Premier League. Such a shame. (Does this say anything about the quality of our coaching? :emoticon-0136-giggl )

Having played so well during that early period, despite his obvious lack of pace, I am naive enough to hope that he might have come good again in 2023/4 but a million is not to be sniffed at, especially given his recent form and his existing contract running down.

He was one of the major causes of us staying up.
His performance at Burnley was amazing. He was very good at Stoke.



The rest of the season He was embarrassing.

I've liked Dickie as a player but none of the defense have justified their position this year. I am sure he will continue to be a good Championship defender and I wish him all the best. As far as I know he's not held the club to ransom nor said he would not play.
I doubt he'll get his Hall of Fame phone call in the next few years but I will not be giving him any grief when he returns wearing red.

If he'd gone for £10m fans would have said we lacked ambition, now he goes for £1m people will moan we didn't get the best price.


As for Dykes/Dickie etc going where money's better it is what it is. Its why they left their old club for us and exactly why any replacements will come and fill their boots.
I've changed jobs for just an extra £500 per year, I can't blame them for moving to get that much more a week!

God this window is going to be slow and depressing...

My inside source tells me last summer Dickie was very pissed off he wasn’t getting interest from far bigger clubs than us or Bristol C.
 
700k up front for Dickie. More piss poor management of the club allowing player contracts to run down to the point where we have a gun pointed at our heads.
