Well i hope we do sign Buttner still.. i really liked his initial desire to play for our club despite interest from qpr and fulham. it was a shame how things went but hopefully things can get sorted out as he can play multiple positions on the left side which provides cover in lots of different areas which is always a plus. I would have hoped to have ALSO got a cb as well at this point but i am confident that we will get one soon. Ramirez would be amazing just because of the way other clubs have spoken about southampton and he is also a fantastic player and is only 21 years old so he would fit into our team mentality very well. Phillips is interesting as i thought we were more likely to get ince but i think he would also be a strong addition to the squad!

We'll be fine so long as we've got our business done by the end of the window.Squad depth is to get through the season and we have enough at the moment to get through the first 2 or 3 games, so no need for mad panic just yet.

Doubt the Gaston Ramirez rumour has much in it. This is a player who would cost £15m and who turned down Spurs because he wanted more money. Unless his agent owes Cortese a massive favour, I can't see it..

£6m seems steep for Phillips. Hopefully it isn't all at once. Good player though who will inject some pace down the flank and his wages would be fairly reasonable. I like him very much as a player and he is still only 20.

Buttner would most likely come in as a left back. Being quick and attack-minded fits the bill of what we want from our fullbacks. Our wingers are likely to get behind and inside when we attack and we'll want the extra width from our fullbacks. Doesn't Buttner have a decent left foot for crossing?

According to transfermarkt.co.uk, he got five assists last season. I'd imagine so, but I think Fox is the master of crossing.

On the Buttner note - Alex Crook of SSN says that we have gone back in for Buttner too.

He's also attending tomorrow's press conference with Adkins, Lambert and Lallana.

Is that the same press conference that everyone was wetting themselves about earlier in the week?

This Ramirez stuff is exciting. Would certainly announce our intent.

Not saying it is solid info but someone who posts both here, and on SaintsWeb - S-Clarke, has posted the following over there:

"I have heard that this is serious. We have been in discussions with representatives on Gaston's side, and Bologna's side since Monday - Cortese was apparently in Italy at the start of the week where he met with them, and the parties have now traveled to England, along with Gaston.

A fee of around £12m is still being thrashed out, but we seem to be in the driving seat. Might be a load of twaddle, but I thought I'd share.

I didn't believe it at first as I thought he was too big a player to get here, but with what I've heard, what the Italian press people have said and a couple of other ''ITK'' people, I'm sure there is active interest to make this a real possibility.

It could well be that our driving to get Phillips done signals the end of the Gaston interest, but whatever, our interest seems to be/have been real.

Exciting."
