I don't like getting drawn into these rumours, when one thing spreads it feels like the worlds going to end. Just like the announcement by Sibley, some believed it was a signing and when they find out it was about the pre-season they're like where is the 'big' announcement even if no one from the club has said it was 'big'

To me this Everton rumour does not make sense.. as mentioned before Everton are tight on cash, there priority is Pienaar. Reports of him going to Jay Rod house are plain ridiculous, that has to be a form of tapping up so that can't be true. If Rodriguez was waiting on a deal up north, I reckon Saints wouldn't have even bothered for him. Cortese does not work like that, whoever signs for Saints has to be working towards Cortese plan. That's why I still believe we are waiting on the last few details for the deal to go through.

Burnley and Saints have approached this deal very professionally, just a bit of lazy journalism is getting in the way which is causing a unnecessary stir. The only thing Nixon has got right was breaking the news we had a bid accepted, fair play to him but since then he's just playing a guessing game. If he goes to EFC I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong, but he won't as I fully believe he will be wearing red and white next season.

There is also the point (and we are all guilty of this) that we think any player who may sign is the answer to our prayers, so that missing out becomes a disaster. Very few even thought a striker was a priority until the JRod rumour started. He will be a good addition, but there are others out there. I suspect Jos wasn't our first choice of CB.

That may be true, but I estimate that by the third season in the PL, we'll be expecting to beat sides like Everton. Saints are aiming to go places. Everton are going nowhere.

THIS!

Everton prestige? Yes they're a stable prem club with history (as were we not so long ago) but they're not exactly setting the world on fire, are they?

Look at saints over the past 3 seasons (yes 2 were in league 1) but we've played some beautiful football and show real ambition. Yes the prem is a step up, but I feel the step up from L1 to champ is bigger than champ to PL and we can make it. And then some.

Next season I won't expect us to trounce city, united, arsenal etc but I think we can give the mid table bunch a run for their money! The days of Branfoot are long gone. COYR

Everton have vastly overachieved every season compared to those spending similar amounts to them. They are a fantastic model of how to run a premier league club on a budget. We are lucky we have more money than them and to be honest I would love to be in their position.

There is no rush on transfers in June. Im sure if Cortese believes J Rod is stalling in anyway then he will cancel the transfer. Think we will have our outcome by next week.

I think Cortese is more pragmatic than we believe. If he thinks there is the chance to land JRod and Nigel wants him, he will persist. However, if he thinks the deal is off, he'll just move on to the next target. No doubt other transfers are on going at the same time...it's just that Rodriguez is the one we've all heard about.

I 100% agree but I don't feel cortese or any of the sfc staff believe we have reached our limits! The aim is Europe. The only plus side for JR to go to everton is purely location. Saints are going places!

Cortese has big aspirations for the club and the fans go along with that because fans are programmed to believe when times are good. Most people, Jay Rod included, will need more convincing. We need to use this window of opportunity to impress upon him that we are the best option, otherwise he will wait and probably go elsewhere. Cortese is very good at selling the club, so I'm still optimistic of us pulling this off. Everton are a more prestigious club than ours and according to the bookies, unlikely to go down. If they manage to get an offer in, we'll do well to beat them in a transfer battle.

Don't think Cortese will enter a battle. We've offered top dollar to Burnley, so no point in offering more if the player is dithering anyway. May be some leeway on wages and conditions, but he has to bear in mind what the other players are on. Incidently, the players who got us here!!

I´m not worried as it´s the mirror. Hard to panic really when you´re in sunny Tenerife with a glorious view out of the window! Weather still **** in the UK¿ Stupid spanish keyboard only has an upside down question mark!

Everton forums have very little about it, though one poster said, Buy him with what!
Burnley forums are obviously saying they want the money early in order to spend. They are also worried they might get less from Everton.
Would reckon we are still likely to get him, but not end of world if we don't.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks, although I´m on a field trip so that might make you feel a bit better!

It's on the underscore '_' key if I remember correct, always found Spanish groovy what with the upside down icon at the start! ='¿Weather still **** in the UK?'. Must be beautiful there, and not to mention big game tomorrow to enjoy with the locals.. (If you get Sunday off for football!)

Chris Boden from the Burnley Express still thinks Jay is signing for Saints.

Here are some of his tweets:

bodenknights: @dankiz1 nothing new, expecting things to move on tomorrow, potentially finalised. Jay's camp leaned towards EFC but offer didn't arrive

bodenknights: @Zoggers87 @dankiz1 will take turn of events for it not to go through now I think, think Jay is a future England international, will do well

bodenknights: @dankiz1 felt EFC would be decent fit in terms of being NW, chance of regular football etc, but seemed reluctant to step up interest

bodenknights: @dankiz1 that would be only reason, but was expecting it to be finalised when talks resume tomorrow, EFC would have to be quick

The prospect of teaming up with Ricky ought be the clincher. Even though he is top scorer he always plays unselfishly laying off chance after chance to his strike partners. If JR wants to make his mark in the Premier League it has to be Saints.

I'd be very happy if we got Butland, I watched him in that England training session (not much to go on I know) and he showed a very good shot stopping ability.

Money talks so he will go to one of the big clubs. He wouldn't necessarily get a lot of first team football if he comes here...why would we upset our established keeper for someone on loan. He'd be back up which we hopefully wouldn't need. If he was our player, Nigel would be trying to develop him and give him opportunities, but why improve him just for him to leave at the end of the season. Non starter, sadly.

IF we did sign him (I doubt we will) he'd probably play second fiddle to Kelv for a while, which is fine, he wouldn't walk into a starting job for any PL team, he's a kid.
