Berbatov would be awesome, if only because he's one of the few players with a touch of the Le Tiss about him. Not sure Adkins would want a 'luxury' player however good they are tho..:emoticon-0101-sadsm

No offence to Guly but Berbatov is a world class player and makes up for it in other ways more than Guly

I'm not talking about quality - Guly was undoubtedly good last season but people called him lazy, Berbatov would be undoubtedly very good but still gets called lazy, it doesn't matter to the Guly boo boys.

He isn't a luxury player really, he scores a load of goals.

Don't know why we're discussing this anyway because I'm 100% sure we won't be signing him.

At work with a customer today in the Midlands who is a removal company and when we started talking football and me being a Saints fan he piped up that they had just booked Roger Johnson in for a home removal from his home in the Midlands down to just outside Bournmouth as he had signed for Saints!

Poor season for Wolves, but if he puts his mind to it, in my opinion, he can be a very good defender. Depending on price and wages he could be well worth a punt.

I still think that a Hooper or Rodriguez are more likely targets for us, they would not command the wages of a player with the repution of a Berbatov or Owen as they have yet to play in the Premier League and to my mind wouldn't upset the equalibrium of the dressing room too much. You have to factor in that if Berbatov had a good season with us, he would be off at the first offer from a bigger club. I don't think are club is at a high enough status to be signing the likes of Berbatov and Owen yet. Look at Stoke, they had a couple of seasons after promotion before they started to gradually sign higher profile players with the security of SKY money behind them.

Evening Saints
Congrats on promotion, looking forward to rubbing shoulders again this season.
Do you think your current squad will be changed much for the coming season? Or will you go down the Norwich route of just adding a few extra?
Who would be the one player you would love to see Saints sign in the summer? & lets be realistic please!
Good luck for the season <ok>

I do think that Saints will go down the Norwich/Swansea route of signing eager, younger, lower profile players rather than the QPR route of signing journeymen. Saints didn't make many summer signings last season and the squad doesn't have a lot of strength in depth, so expect a busy summer. The club's ambition is impressive and the chairman is very persuasive, so there could be some punching above our weight in the market. I'd quite like us to sign Matt Jarvis, but we'll see how it goes.

Another thing about Jay Rod would be he has a few ex team mates down here, fox and cork, and probably played under21s with Lallana if I'm not being stupid.

Re: Roger Johnson, no idea why he was so poor last year, always been impressed with him before that...

Collectively the Wolves defense was absolutely appalling, but they were so disjointed that it's hard to know what to make of any of them as individuals. Johnson looked rather bad when I saw him, but as their back four always seemed to be constantly scrambling around out of position, his play might well just be an outlier borne of an impossible situation. Wouldn't spend a fortune on him, but wouldn't be upset if we picked him up at a reasonable price.

Not a rumour as such and I don't know if he has been mentioned on this thread (can't be arsed to trawl through) but what about Chris Burke from Brum?..He was a top performer last season with 12 goals and an impressive 17 assists from midfield. He is still only 28 and would probably jump at a move to the Premier League.

Good shout, looked decent against Blackpool

Johnson was very good at Cardiff and Birmingham. I don't think he's a bad player. With some Adkins magic, I think we could bring his old form back. For a reasonable fee, I think it would be a decent signing.

That was my thinking. At Cardiff I thought he was one of the best defenders in the league.
