If we can get him on a similar cheap pay-as-you-play deal that united had him on, I don't see what harm it can do. He'd be a great influence on the young players. Don't think it's enormously likely though.

If fit he is still one of the best goal scorers around. However his fitness can't be guaranteed and hw would take up one of the 25 squad places so would be too much of a gamble in my opinion.

I have to agree with this.. Surely someone who can perform over the course of a season.. Will be a better option.. All be it a little more expensive than Owen.

Seen the above comments ref Michael Owen , however I think it is worth a gamble if we can get him on a pay as you play deal and would make a great partnership with Rickie. Proven top rate goal scorer when he is fit but the other way to look at this is.....if we could get him it might send out the right signal to other players that the Saints are going somewhere and we might attract a calibre of player that might normally not even consider coming to the Saints.

I don't think Owen is as injury-prone as some people think. He's been match fit for most of his time at United, but has just been some way down the pecking order. I think whoever signs him next season will get plenty of games out of him.

1 thing I would say is that, for Owen, it seems to be about the prestige of playing in the PL rather than the money. He said the Championship wasn't an option which suggests to me somebody like Leicester has probably offered him big £. I think he'd fit into our wage bracket if it meant getting game time in the Premiership

Southampton is a bit too far away from his riding stables in Flintshire (not cheshire as the papers claim). I am a very close relative of one of his neighbours who used to watch his helicopter taking off each day.

At work with a customer today in the Midlands who is a removal company and when we started talking football and me being a Saints fan he piped up that they had just booked Roger Johnson in for a home removal from his home in the Midlands down to just outside Bournmouth as he had signed for Saints!

I certainly hope not.

I wouldn't. If the idiots in the crowd think Guly is lazy what will they think of Berbatov?

No offence to Guly but Berbatov is a world class player and makes up for it in other ways more than Guly

Evening Saints
Congrats on promotion, looking forward to rubbing shoulders again this season.
Do you think your current squad will be changed much for the coming season? Or will you go down the Norwich route of just adding a few extra?
Who would be the one player you would love to see Saints sign in the summer? & lets be realistic please!
Good luck for the season <ok>
