Simon Peach has just tweeted:

"One-on-one interviews with Adkins, K Davis & Rodriguez in the bag. All very positive about ‪#SaintsFC‬."

"Adkins quiet on ‪#SaintsFC‬ links with Clyne & Co. Comments will be on the PA wire within the hour. Will post them then."

Yeah, he switched and got two assists at some point, I remember. Regardless, he made it into the team as a LB, until Assou-Ekotto took his place back and he was shifted forwards. The point of this argument is not that they have to be rated by posters on this forum, though, or even good fullbacks - when did that come into the equation?? They were starters in the Premiership in a fullback position (or in Jones' case, an occasional fullback).

So the question isn't whether people are good there, just that they play there? That seems flawed from the outset - more of an argument for Clyne will play ahead of Richardson more than Clyne should play ahead of Richardson. Using this logic, we could argue a case for signing a player terrible at everything except winning headers. Heskey started for England with that skillset, so why shouldn't everybody else?

Well, it wasn't my question. It's in response to this statement earlier from Joe:

"But we do know that you get very few defenders as young as him in this division, especially at teams who are expected to be near the bottom."

No mention of how good a defender needs to be, just that they're good enough to make the first team. And infact, I've been incorrectly limiting my examples to full backs, when it is actually defenders as a whole. Anyway, happy to drop it - find out next season how he does, if he signs.

@alex_crook: #saintsfc agree £1.5m compensation deal with #cpfc to sign defender Nathaniel Clyne. Good bit of business in my view

How he knows I don't know...

£1.5m would be a steal, especially seeing as he is English and we all know most English players have an inflated price. What is the thought on Reading going for Danny Simpson? A good buy?
