Sunderland are insisting on a fee for defender Santiago Vergini. The Sunderland Echo says the Black Cats have rejected a proposal from suitors Boca Juniors to sign the defender for free. Vergini faces an uncertain future when he returns to Wearside at the end of next week after last season's loan spell at relegated La Liga outfit Getafe failed to materialise into a permanent switch. The Argentine international – sent out on loan by Allardyce's predecessor Dick Advocaat – has been attracting interest, most notably from his homeland where Boca are understood to have made contact with Sunderland. However, it is thought that Boca's initial offer was to sign Vergini on a free transfer, which has been turned down by Sunderland. Or has he just been released? Sunderland flop Santiago Vergini is close to joining Boca Juniors, according to the Argentinian club’s president. The 27-year-old has failed to impress during a two-and-a-half-year spell on Wearside, and Sam Allardyce is set to clear the decks of dead wood at the Stadium of Light before beginning his summer rebuilding. Arriving initially on loan from Estudiantes in January 2014 before making the move permanent last June, Vergini - who made 51 appearances for the Black Cats - was immediately loaned out to Getafe. Their relegation from La Liga ended any chance of them buying the player outright, despite impressing during 28 appearances. But reports earlier this week suggested Vergini was back in his homeland seeking a new club, and Boca president Daniel Angelici now says talks are at an advanced stage. “I believe we’re signing Vergini,” he said. “We’ve advanced with the negotiations, we have everything almost done with the club and the player.” Varying reports in Argentina claim Vergini - for whom Sunderland are said to have paid £2 million - has either been released by the Black Cats and completed a free transfer to Boca, or that the Wearside outfit are holding out for a fee before a deal is finalised on Friday.
Cheikh M’Bengue has disclosed he has been approached by Sunderland, and would be interested in the move to Wearside after being linked with the club. The French-born defender is currently out of contract after leavingLigue 1 side, Stade Rennais and - with an extra bonus - is also available on a free transfer. http://www.vavel.com/en/football/pr...ls-sunderland-have-shown-interest-in-him.html
We need another left back. Mags are in for him too. He'll play every game there but he'll back up here. At least at first, he'd have to play well and win his place
Mags are shelling out £10m on Dwight Gayle and also in for Matt Richie. Gayle well overpriced at that however I like that Richie. Scored that belter against us last season.
Prefer the standard of player we're being linked with. Subotic, Dzeko, M'Vila. We are Premier League at a time the best players in world want a taste
He'd be suited more suited to Leicester, than anybody else. He's an old school right winger and would probably slip fairly comfortable into their 4-4-2 system. He's a very good player, but doesn't suit our tactics.
Didn't Wedt Ham ask about him and get quoted £15million or so? Shows the mark up Prem teams are going to be paying.
We could do with a scoring midfielder this season (10+ goals) It's always a bonus when you are struggling to get balls up to your attacker when you've got someone who can cut inside a player and smash a ball in. Carlos Edwards anyone ?!?!
