Former Newcastle United transfer target Bas Dost is among the strikers being considered by Sunderland.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is keen to boost his forward line this summer, with Jermain Defoe currently the only orthodox central striker on the club’s books.

The Black Cats have been in discussions with West Ham over a move for Diafra Sakho - potentially available if the Hammers fulfil their objective of bringing in a big-money striker this summer.

But it is understood that Sunderland - along with Hamburg - are keeping tabs on Wolfsburg’s 6ft 5in targetman Dost as an alternative option, although they have not yet made any formal contact with the German club.

Dost was on Newcastle’s hit-list 12 months ago and the Magpies held talks over a move for the 27-year-old, before eventually switching their attentions to Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But Wolfsburg are thought to be ready to cash-in on Dost this summer, as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract with the Bundesliga side.

Dost - who has netted 36 goals in 84 Bundesliga appearances - wants to test himself in the Premier League, while Wolfsburg have held talks with Spurs target Vincent Janssen as a possible replacement.

Meanwhile, Sunderland, along with West Brom, have been credited with an interest in Norwich’s Robbie Brady.

The Republic of Ireland international is one of those likely to leave Carrow Road after Norwich’s relegation, although the Canaries have reportedly slapped a £12million price tag on the 24-year-old.

However, Brady has predominantly played at left-back over the last two seasons and that is not thought to be one of Allardyce’s priorities in the transfer market.

First-choice left-back Patrick van Aanholt penned a new four-year contract at the Stadium of Light last week, with a new right-back far more pressing for Sunderland.

PSG right-back Serge Aurier was mentioned as a possibility to fill the latter vacancy yesterday, but reports in France have dismissed the link.

Bas Dost?

Wasnt he linked a few seasons ago.

I've just heard we've asked about Ryan Mason from Spurs.

There's a lot of logic in that.

Could have legs if they're getting Wanyama.

Not sure how I feel about that one if I'm being honest, would expect he'd cost about £8m or so?

On here earlier the Catts post people were saying we should be asking 10 million for him, Mason is younger and English (I think) so he's,got to be at least the same if not more than Catts, you pay a premium for English players.

About 11 or 12 million, I reckon.

Add Daniel Levy into the equation and you're probably both right at £12m ish.

Personally don't think we'd get more than £5/6m for Catts (that's a discussion for another thread).

Midfield 3 of Kirchhoff, M'Vila & Mason.

Sunderland have been linked with FC Twente’s Hakim Ziyech, according to sources in Holland.

But the Black Cats face stiff competition for the Dutch-born Moroccan international’s signature.

Sam Allardyce is determined to strengthen his squad this summer and avoid another battle against relegation next season.

He wants a right-back, an attacking midfielder and a striker, as well, ideally, as a centre-back and a box-to-box midfielder.

Among those attacking areas of recruitment, Allardyce is targeting players who are adaptable across several positions, and Ziyech fits the bill.

Left footed, the 23-year-old prefers to operate as a No 10 but can also play wide. He is known as a set-piece specialist.

He has scored 30 goals in 66 games for Twente over the past two seasons, and though he was called up for the Holland national side last May, opted instead to represent Morocco, for whom he has two goals in six games.

That form has attracted the interest of Bundesliga outfits Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg and Schalke and Russian side Spartak Moscow.

But reports claim Ziyech - who has two years to run on his existing deal - would favour a move to England, and that Sunderland also face competition for the player from Arsenal, Southampton, Swansea City, Watford, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough

I think he'd get bounced from pillar to post, in our league. Too lightweight and easily knocked off the ball.

I see him as a lesser version of Khazri.
