I don't know much about Zimmermann apart from his facts and stats, and the comments made from our staff.

My instinct was to punch the air in celebration. He Is a good age, captain of the youth team, 6'4, Strong and he looks the part! He looks BUFF!

I'd be amazed and disappointed if he is not a major presence in both boxes. My first thought was of him and Klose together could be a really stunning partnership if this lad is all he's made out to be. Klose is so calm and good on the ball, if this lad is as intelligent as they say, you'd think he would be a calm players who would pass out from the back too.

Our attempts at spending big always seem to fail. The players we have got from lower leagues can work or might fail, but there is less overall risk. The 'Lambert Strategy' has worked for us in the past, young hungry players, because after all our squad this last year was aging so I doubt we need to bring in too much experience we more need a refresh.

This is where the risk factor comes in. If you want a defender with solid Championship experience, you pay the going rate for them. As it appears we don't have two centimes to rub together - unless we sell one (or more) of our top players, this is the way ahead for the club.
I'm in the 'innocent until proven guilty' camp <ok>

In his interview he said that his physical style would be more suited to English football than German, and he has always followed the EPL. Plus his connection to DF made it an easy decision for him.

Reading between the lines, I'd say he actually just went for the best offer currently available to him. If someone in Germany or the Dortmund first team had stay and we'll give you the same as Norwich I doubt he'd be here. We can still at least I hope more than match a 4th tier german clubs salary offer.

Bah!

Like DH, I'm concerned that all of the CBs so far, including Bielik are right-footed. Also, if Zimmermann is seen as a back-up, then for the first time we're recruiting a squad player, which might also apply to Bielik. That seems to be a retrograde step, but perhaps that's the situation we are now in. Will they provide enough competition for the starting CBs? The previous 3 signings would all seem to be competing for a starting place, but I'm less sure of these CBs doing that.

Having looked at the Borussia Dortmund squad, Zimmerman was their 4th CB. Being a big club in the Bundesliga, he would obviously be competing against some very good CBs, so he captained the development squad to get game time and keep up his match fitness. That makes me feel it's wrong to consider him a 4th division player. That makes me feel much better about this deal now. Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt and hope he turns out to be a star. Here's Farke's view of him:

That seems very balanced and I'm now looking forward to seeing him play.

<applause>
He CAN'T be any worse than Bassong!!! <yikes>

C'mon Webber pull your finger out, no players in so far this week? Have we signed any more players yet?

On another note, Cameron McGeehan appears to be back on his way up the footbaling pyramid, good luck to the lad.

Bah!

Brave move from Barnsley seeing as he hasn't played since he had his leg broken on January 2nd, although I suppose a fee of £750k to £1m-ish isn't that much to risk these days. He's still returning to fitness though I think. Would be nice to see him continue to progress, although a slight shame that the fee is so reasonable - our sell-on clause isn't worth as much!

On a different note, apparently Saulo Decarli, a BuLi 2 CB, has turned us down because he didn't want to move.
