It's pretty clear that we're not likely to pay much more then £1m for any player this window, which is why we're looking at a 19 year-old on loan and a non-league player for around £350,000.
I'm not sure that's completely fair, but as ever time will tell. The jigsaw pieces won't fall into place in a coherent order from the outside, but here's my take on it...
The first priority for the management team is the real bargains. There aren't many free agents worth considering, and very few loan signings you could put straight into your first team. So we have to snap them up quickly before others do. Watkins, Gunn and Blielik fit this category.
Alongside this, is spending what little money we know we have on underpriced players. Vrancic and Raggett both have buyout clauses which we could comfortably trigger.
However, I don't believe this is fully indicative of the transfer fees we'll consider spending later in the window. That'll depend on the money coming in. Right now we're rounding out the squad, plugging some of the gaps, and desperately trying to sell. Once we've got a better idea of the money coming in, we can try and get the best players we can in key positions.
So based on that, I'm not expecting our starting LB, and probably a CB to be signed until mid August. Hopefully the sales of other players will allow us to spend £2m+ per player in those areas.
