It's pretty clear that we're not likely to pay much more then £1m for any player this window, which is why we're looking at a 19 year-old on loan and a non-league player for around £350,000.

I'm not sure that's completely fair, but as ever time will tell. The jigsaw pieces won't fall into place in a coherent order from the outside, but here's my take on it...

The first priority for the management team is the real bargains. There aren't many free agents worth considering, and very few loan signings you could put straight into your first team. So we have to snap them up quickly before others do. Watkins, Gunn and Blielik fit this category.

Alongside this, is spending what little money we know we have on underpriced players. Vrancic and Raggett both have buyout clauses which we could comfortably trigger.

However, I don't believe this is fully indicative of the transfer fees we'll consider spending later in the window. That'll depend on the money coming in. Right now we're rounding out the squad, plugging some of the gaps, and desperately trying to sell. Once we've got a better idea of the money coming in, we can try and get the best players we can in key positions.

So based on that, I'm not expecting our starting LB, and probably a CB to be signed until mid August. Hopefully the sales of other players will allow us to spend £2m+ per player in those areas.

I hope you're right DH. I'm not knocking the new signings, all 3 of which are shrewd moves, bringing in good players who will suit the new approach for next to nothing, while gaining on the fee for Dorrans and the savings from his wages as well as the £1m coming in for Rudd (though, like KIO, I was disappointed with the fee). It's the CB and LB situation I'm concerned about. We need a quality LB and an experienced CB (2 if Klose leaves). I can see the loan signing of Bielik and a small fee for Raggett as long as a quality, experienced CB comes in as well. I agree that doing so will probably have to wait for funds to come in for players leaving but I think we're all a bit haunted by the failure to sign another CB in previous windows.

He seemed highly unlikely to get a proper chance here, £1m for effectively our third choice goalkeeper with 12 months on his contract isn't terrible. A club with more money than sense was never going to be interested in him.

I agree, best thing for him and us, I'm sure there'll be the normal add ons and sell on clauses. I wish him well and hope he saves his worst rickets for when he plays us, though he'll more than likely have 2 of his best games ever!

Bah!

Fair price for Dekkers I'd say. He was ultimately going to be third choice behind McGovern and Gunn and so adding £1m to our available funds for a guy who (barring serious injuries to said 2) was unlikely to feature much seems like a good move for us.

I'd rather we shifted McGovern to be honest, but it is the right thing to do for Rudd's career he needs to be a number 1 somewhere at his age.

A defender! CB who can cover RB, joining from Dortmund II. Free transfer.

Like this from Farke, who probably knows him better than anyone: "He’s very big, tall, strong and powerful and he’s an intelligent boy. He was my captain of my under-23 team at Borussia Dortmund, and he fits English football because of his powerful way."

To be unkind, this could be Farke's "Andreu moment", but we'll see.

Well he's certainly a player Farke knows well, so this would seem to make a lot of sense, but time will tell. I'm a little bit concerned that all of the CBs we have and who are coming or been linked are right-sided players. I know Klose can play on the left, but it's a disadvantage to have to try to clear the ball with the opposite foot, but at least we have another CB, and one for whom defending is a passion. I like that.
