I get that but i just think the way we are set up we will score goals but itll come from all over the team.

Imo Mundle, Mayenda n Isidor could all get double figures. If Jobe was playing as the 10 (the role rigg has played last 2 games) he would hit double figures.

I think we have plenty goals in midfield, Rigg makes unreal movement into the box and will score a fair few, as will Browne. Poveda and Roberts need to be aiming for 5 each as a min.

If cirkin stays fit he might get close to double figures the way he attacks the box lol

O9 ballard mepham n co need to be aiming for a few each

We have goals in our team, they are just spread out rather than relying on Clarke to bail us out - we will def miss Clarke at times tho but thats because hes class

There are informed gambles and then there are wildcards.

I could gamble £20 that Cannon, Broadhead, Hirst, Mendy or Moore would get us 15-20 goals this season and I think my money would be safe,
I could gamble £100 that Clarke would get us 25+ goal contributions again. Again, my money would be safe

I wouldn't feel as confident putting that money on Isidor, Mundle & Abdullahi.

100% behind the team and the coach but I feel like the powers that be have left us short again
I wouldn’t bet on any of the strikers you name to get 15. Hirst has got 7 at championship level and is injured. Moore has never really been prolific. Broadhead is injured and Cannon is recovering from a back injury and has barely played in the last 12 months. Mendy looked a good option but adapting to championship is not straightforward. I wouldn’t bet on any of ours either to be fair but all those you mentioned would bring high costs and absolutely no guarantee of goals.
Agree Clarke would have been around that mark again though.

Here's some footage of the new lad playing at the equivalent of Silky Ski Slope in Africa

You must log in or register to see media

I've learned over the years to put very little stock in these videos but what's undeniable is that the lad is big (looks like an adult sneaked into a kids game) and fast and that's a great place to start from.

It also appears that he's got plenty of ability on the ball and finishes well but let's wait and see about that.

We'll all feel class when Wilson comes off the bench and scores today.

I'm like everyone else really, I feel a bit robbed having not signed another permanent senior striker but we've brought in another kid who seemingly has bags of potential. The other deals are canny, Mepham has the potential to be a great loan and Samed comes in with great pedigree, he played CL football last year ffs! Aleksic is an exciting one and you'd imagine some succession planning with that one.

We also don't want to block pathways, theres a reason Brighton wanted Tommy Watson and he'll need gametime this year and Mayenda too.

Been a really good window, just wished they'd got that final piece we all know we need.

I highly doubt we were after Orban, I think it was Bamba we were after all day.

Did Hemir go? Has Isidor been given a number yet? Wouldn't be surprised if he's been given the number 9 to try and prove a point.

Slight feeling hemir hasn’t been announced yet to our announce Isidor as our new number 9

I know people will probably not agree with me but I think we didn't do too badly in the window - could've been better of course but I feel something good is being built at the club. We have players that are very talented and can grow along with the club. Here's hoping we can continue with the good start for the season this afternoon
Decided not to comment last night as emotions were running high for us all, likely still are.

No point in lying but im def disappointed in not signing another championship ready CF. I do think some people went overboard last night but if thats their way to vent n show their frustrations then fair enough. The CF situaion has been poor the last 12 months or so but i would also say the situation this season looks better than last so we have improved in that area.

I do get annoyed when i see comments saying the window has been a failure - it hasnt. I get some went overboard because it has been a good window and they felt the CF position was the missing piece.

For me there has been so many positives this summer and they all outweigh the disappointed of losing Clarke n not signing a striker.

RLB is the biggest positive, we all really like him and this was always going to be the biggest n most important 'signing' of the window.
We retained Rigg, i remember most on here saying keeping him would be our best piece of business all summer - we kept him!
Ballard signed a new deal
Jobe signed a new deal
Hume, neil, Patterson and Roberts all stayed despite there being bids on the table for all 4
We signed the experienced CM we have been crying out for in Browne
We added a really quality CM in Sameh who brings that pace n energy we have lacked for a while.
CM is now a position of real strength, its the most important position on the pitch for me and we now look really strong in that area.
Poveda will be a great addition, i think his presence alone has meant Roberts has lifted his game.
Moore is a very good no2 who again will push Patterson
Mepham, what a signing this could be. A quality championship CB who again turns a potential weakness into a real strength now at CB.
Aleksic is a wow talent from what I've seen, this boy looks the real deal and I'm buzzing to see him in action for us.
Abdullahi is meant to be a cracking prospect, i need to watch more of himself myself before giving my thoughts.
Isidor has signed and already seems to get the club and looks buzzing to play for us. I love that RLB clearly wanted him so therefore must know he can play in his system so im looking forward to seeing him play.
We have got off to a cracking start
Some of our younger players have really kicked on

Yes the striker is deflating and they must review how they are 1st identifying scouting targets through data, 2nd how are they scouting potential targets and then 3rd how are they signing these lads.

What i would say is i honestly believe that both Mayenda and Isidor can score double figures this season, i don't except either to be close to 20 goals but they can hit double figures.

Every team in the league will have areas of weakness, either in terms of squad depth or 1st team positions and we are no different

Overall, i think its been a pretty good window with almost all our needs met. We have got proven championship experience in the team which is what we were crying out fir last season

Brilliant post - makes you just take a step back, take a second to think and realise that things are actually pretty damn good at the moment. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Time will tell. Isidor,Mundle and Abdullahi might do the business. Wildcards as you say, but we could have said the same about Kevin Phillips. I am getting confident in RLB's abilities to get the best from these players. Difficult match today, but then a couple of weeks on the training ground and, hoping our players come back from these ****ing poxy internationals fit and well, the match at Plymouth will be interesting.

I agree with this. Imagine if the internet/social media had been around upon signing Kevin Phillips (somewhere between unkown and championship plodder).

Overall, a decent window, a mix of a few who know the league, some potential, but most of all damage limitation on players moving out. Clarke has been the one to make way but keeping Neil, Jobe, Cirkin, Ballard, Patto, Roberts and Rigg sets us up for some steady progress.

Obviously a proven striker could be the icing on the cake, but be wary of ending up with a Grigg/Lafferty/Graham etc just to fill a short term hole.

I just think it's revisionism to try and suggest the window has be good, despite 'solid' acquisitions in the likes of Browne and Mepham context must be sought in the fact that we've sold a massive asset in Clarke financially and whilst a couple of fees have knocked about this summer we've hardly put any of that into the position we've struggle the most since the Stewart injury and the Simms return to Everton.

People alledging vanity bids in the 11th hour for the likes of Bamba aside, it's clear they wanted someone else and their inability to do this despite having all summer and a relative war chest for this level is concerning and continues to be a major disappointment.

There's every chance we come good with what we've got and I'm always behind the lads but looking at it objectively the striker situation is such a glaring issue the fact it hasn't been adequately addressed considering the strikers signed by even other championship clubs this summer, massively outweighs and overshadows our other business, that's how important it is.

Only been here a few months but it's been a pleasure to read such an informative thread. Well done everyone. Now back to real stuff with todays game. We're top and that's not to be ignored. Early days.
The window closed without that special piece in the jigsaw but the other business seems fair . We don't know the ins and outs since Clarke and strikers but it appears the model has been tweaked . Another plus. At least we are hearing of £10m bids . RLB has influenced the playing squad and it appears influenced the thinking around the model and data. I'm still positive and even more than pre season. I'm sticking with top six. Haway !!
