The challenge is to be the best you can be with the resources you have. Doesn’t mean we need to be competing at top end of PL or in Europe. Just means we do our best in every aspect of the club.
It's only early doors in the club rebuild, in a way. The academy is looking really good now and the first team won't see the full benefit of that for a while yet.

Does that apply to the supporters of all of the hundreds of clubs who'll never ever reach the PL.

Hartlepool have a good bunch of supporters who seem to really enjoy their ups and downs.

You're right, it's not the be all and end all for the majority of teams. I've got a huge respect for die hards of teams that have little hope of ever getting to the prem, or even league 1 but go religiously every week. If sunderland ever folded I'd support the local team in non league and would enjoy it. I live in cambs., most pick a prem team, mainly London clubs but more than a few man united, Liverpool etc. It was a massive culture shock when I moved here, got into a few arguments about the lack of Cambridge or Peterborough supporters.

We have become accustomed to being in or around the top flight over the years, its not a given, you have to earn it and deserve it, but its never to be turned down in my book.

Totally agree but in one breath people are saying we have the money to spend when we find the right player and in the next saying we need to sell to generate funds. So do we have money or do we not?

They brought in 4 strikers in the last Summer window. None of them hit the ground running, but it was a clear strategy by the club to invest in youth. You can't then say they haven't brought strikers in.

This time round they are flexing the model to bring in an experienced striker but that costs more, so it makes sense to make sure it's the right one (Stewart) and not some over priced, doesn't want to be here type (Grigg). If it means we wait until 1st Sept then so be it.
They brought in a 19 year old who had zero first team experience.

they brought in two 19 year olds with less than half a season experience between them. A 20 year old on loan who had played less than a handful of senior games and a forward from a warzone who was not a striker. Yes I can say they did not bring in a first team ready striker wether you like it or not

None of that happened by accident though. That's the point I'm making.

So they deliberately failed to bring in a ready made first team striker
No they (and you know this, you are just being obtuse) decided to invest in youth, believing that the young players they brought in would be able to score the goals required to get us promoted. They were wrong. There is no shame in that. They recognise that and are taking steps to rectify. I fail to see the negative in any of this.

It's too quiet
It always is haha. Honestly have no idea in the striker direction personally. Ugbo is off to Wednesday and mendy might not even get let go and it doesn’t look like we want to pay near the valuation otherwise we would have

I honestly think after that agent statement he thought they were going to let him go for free. The quote said they would allow him to leave “even freely” and they went back on that promise.

Chronicle said today they want at least 3m and for a 23 goal top scorer of the league last season I think that’s reasonable but it looks like we don’t want to pay it.

so I suppose it’s waiting to see if we have a follow up? I just hope the whole of August isn’t gone by the time we get one.

(I’m not moaning btw it’s just how I see the situation)

Sofatester on RTG who I think is a good poster has said he’s heard we have moved on from Mendy now
