Browne was saying how comfortable he is playing DM. Doesn't sound like he sees it as 'shoehorning'. Maybe you know better than the player himself.

A new player will be happy to play anywhere. I am basing this on his player of the season roles (multiple) at his former club.

Just a gut feeling but I think Clarke might go in the next week or so. The Ipswich link seems pretty firm and they don't seem the kind to mess about once they land on a player. They missed out on Philogene and I think Clarke was their next stop.

I reckon they'll go back and forth on offers and it will happen "behind closed doors" and then we'll suddenly find out we've accepted an offer.
Would be a shame if Clarke goes to Ipswich. I like Ipswich but it seems sure they'll come straight down. Clarke is as good a player as there is in the Championship and I feel the rest of hos career should be in the Prem.

Come off it man. He was very clear that he is happy in the role. At 29 he doesn't need to soft soap anyone. He has clearly played DM before plenty of times and is happy there. What is football message board's need to pigeon hole every player?

They played a back 4 for a lot of the season under Rohl, Poveda starts for them as a right winger - theyve been really keen to sign him plus he has interest in Europe

He is an exciting player, who needs to kick on now and i think we could get the best out of him. He fits the high paced football we seem to be wanting to play under le bris

Think i saw him 6 times towards the end of the season, 1 of the games he was pretty poor imo but it was against Leicester. The other 5 he was good, i think it was the game against birmingham where he was unplayable - was a joy to watch
Okay, you’ve charmed me, I’m sold, Viva Poveda

It's just an opinion mate. IMO when I have seen him at his best he has played higher than the DM role. This is also backed up by his former club performances and player of the season awards. IMO his profile is more higher.

Di Canio's Knees on RTG

Mendy signed, pending medical which is being done as we speak. Can’t see it being announced today like, probably one for tomorrow now. Fee as low as £1m plus add ons (I don’t know what the add ons or values are mind.)

Poveda today and Mendy tomorrow is my guess.

KS loves a good deal doesn't he

Fair enough mate, just don’t see him improving our Xl to be honest hope I’m wrong! We all know he’s got talent but just having it and actually using it are totally different which is probably why Leeds are happy to get rid. If we were to start with Browne/Neil/Rigg then Clarke and Poveda we have a worse “midfield 5” than we had in the 22/23 play off season albeit some of the younger lads like Neil have more experience.

Fair enough. This doesn't mean, though, that he can't be very competent in the DM role.

I think the underlying issue is that he’s NOT a 6 though. We’ve just spent a season trying to force an 8 to play as a 6 (Ekwah) and it’s difficult. Square pegs round holes and all that. He might be happy playing there but is he effective there?

It doesn't. But for me it's that specialist any other type of midfielder that gets played their and if it's not natural position (it's shoehorning). Hence my initial post.

Exactly my point.

Interesting the Clarke stuff has stepped up. There was a lot of talk towards the end of June that he was expected to leave. When that comes from within, it's normally a matter of time.

Better not drag on for the rest of the summer. And I hope the club have got a couple of things up their sleeve because they’ll need to find Clarkes goals form somewhere. Nice shiny nostalgic shirts are all well and good, business on the pitch is where its at now.

This is the quandary facing the club now tho. Do they pull the trigger on Mendy for £3m or wait until Clarke is sold for £25m and use it to go out and spend £8-10m on a striker like Coventry did with Simms.

I think the club will lend the money from its self, get whom we need then put it back when Clarke leaves imo

They will see it as redistribution. Most goals hopefully switch to the new 9 and other wingers chipping in.
