O'Nien as CLUB captain makes excellent sense to me, he is an excellent ambassador for the club, he was only captain on the pitch because of Evan's injury. I think Neil will make an excellent captain on the pitch but when he stepped up last season for a couple of games, it seemed to weigh heavy on him, however he is getting older, wiser and more experienced with each match.

Totally agree. I think he's got a great attitude and is a good role model.

Anyone else looking forward to Monday? I feel that’s when we’ll start hearing the transfer news as well as hopefully getting an interview with Regis.
I don’t think we’ll hear transfer news until it’s done. The way the club is run now, we normally hear nothing except Nixon telling us we’re signing everyone for sale, just so he can go back and say “I got it right”!!

Right.. we’re talking about why O’nien was picked to play and I said because he was named captain, which he was in August. He’s been the captain in 40+ games this season, on the pitch he is the captain :emoticon-0102-bigsm
He was picked to play because he played well for the majority of the season, yes he had some bad games but he also had more good games than bad

Now do we need to improve at CB, yes but id say that across all positions - we should always be looking to improve

So why didn't it go to any of the other players? maybe as O'nien was one of our better and more experienced players

Because they’re all about 21 :emoticon-0102-bigsm who else is it going to? They didn’t want Pritchard and Bathh at the club that was obvious, who does that leave Dack - Who’d only just joined. Experienced, albeit at a sh*t level, he is. Better player, he is not.

Cirkin, Ballard, O’nien, Hume - who’s the weak link?

None of them are the weak link? that is a good championship defence, Could've went to Ballard, Neil, Patterson. Why do you think they didn't want Batth and Pritchard, they aren't championship quality, O'nien is

Neil as team captain and O'Nien as club captain makes perfect sense. As you say it might have been too soon for Neil last season but he's probably ready now.

We have much bigger issues than defence. We are quite a good side defensively, 5th best for goals conceded and 7th best for xG conceded. We're more than fine there.

We have major issues going forward, then if we lose Clarke and Jobe (22 goals) we have even more problems.

Would I like an upgrade on O'Nien? Yes. But it's nowhere near a priority.

The answer is your favourite player so let’s just avoid answering it and pretend we’ve got the best defence in the division hahahahah.

O’nien who’s approaching 30 and has only played about 90 games of his career at this level is championship quality whilst two players who’ve played pretty much all of their career at this level or higher are sh*te. Wild.

Steve Parish: "Hello Stewart. We're interested in signing Jobe. How does twenty..."
Stewart Donald (interrupting): "Sold!"
SP: "Err...you didn't let me finish.."
SD: "£20 is fine. Sold and sold. Can you pay us in PayPoint vouchers?"
Not far wrong :emoticon-0102-bigsm

5th best for goals conceded because we were about 17/18th for goals scored. If we had one of the best defences whilst also committing men forward and scoring plenty of goals it’s another story.

This is the concern, and exactly why the recruitment needs to be more thought out than just signing promising youngsters.

How comes every manager has picked O'nien over Batth and Pritchard has failed since he left then? O'nien is not my favourite player but has performed well and deserved captaincy based on that AND his experience. Never said we had the best defnce, just we have a good championship one, hence why we were 5th best for goals conceded last year...

And that means we need to upgrade O'nien? that will help us commit men forward will it?

But we were committing players forward. 5th most touches in the opposition box.

I'm no fan of O'Nien and his antics do my head in but he's better than a lot of championship defenders people want to replace him, including Batth.

If an opportunity in the market comes up to replace him we should definitely take it but we have much bigger issues in the squad. Patrick Roberts being a major one.

Agree. I would suggest also that certain elements of Luke's play improved over the season....his passing for one.

Bellingham is a big name at this moment in time due to his brother. He's only finished the first year of a reported 4 year deal. If Palace or any other Premier League team want him, then it's has to cost them big style.

If I was KLD and Palace or someone came in with an offer of anywhere near £20m,my feet wouldn't touch the ground all the way to the bank!

It would be a sensible thing to do. There are no guarantees as to how far Jobe might go. To turn down that sort of money would be remiss in my opinion.
