Really happy with this. And really like Speakman's write up at the bottom.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “We are really pleased to welcome Simon to our Club. This summer, we felt it was vital to identify and recruit a goalkeeper who is capable of pushing Anthony Patterson daily, and who has additional qualities to training and match environments. Simon has a different profile to many players within our group and he is as motivated to push Anthony as he is to help our younger goalkeepers and the wider player group. We are delighted he has joined the Club.”

Just what we need. Hopefully a couple of outfield positions of a similar mold to help guide the young lads.

Completely agree. Not a great reflection on Bishop though.

To be fair to him (Bishop) he is the same age as Patto (24) and has played less games than him, I think the thing Speakman is getting at is to do with matchday prep and good prep will come from having played a lot of games over many years, as well as being a little more competitive and little less matey in training.

Bishop surely needs to go on loan (or Perm). Pointless him being a number 2 at his age.

Have to laugh at everyone taking the moral ground against City for their alleged FFP breaches but nobody is batting an eyelid about Villa selling Duran to Chelsea for £40m and Maatsen going the other way for £35m whilst Irogbaneam goes to Everton for £10m and Dobbin goes the other way. £50m of wiggle room instantly added to the coffers even if they spread the costs over 5/6 years.

Didn't Barcelona and Juve get done for the same thing a few years ago?

He's supposedly got some of his coaching badges already and was very popular and vocal in the Coventry dressing room so you can see where he fits in here.

I doubt he's here to push Patto in terms of starts, more of pushing him harder in training and helping him improve. We've had Bass and now I suspect Bishop who want to play more games as they're younger so the 2 year deal for Moore makes sense. He'll happily sit there and help us develop our own.

I see it like this:

Patto - 1st choice
Moore - Back up
Bishop - sold/released
Richardson - Loan non league
Young - Loan League 2.

Think he will be. In the article Speakman talks about Moore pushing Patterson so sounds like he will be the number 2.
Not convinced, sounds more like a coaching/experienced mentor arrangement to me. Of course he might also be no 2.
Personally I don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough to push for Pattersons place but his other attributes mean he is worth having around.
